on my d9 2.2 sri estate, i am getting a real annoying vibration. i am 100% it is coming from the heat shield between the back box and the bottom of the car (maybe its the petrol tank). it is not touching the exhaust at all and it is firmly attached to the car. when i tap it, i get the same noise, and when the car is idling its vibrating - if i press it, the sound stops.
what can i do to get rid of this annoyance. when i start the car, it sounds loike sommat is about to fall off.
do i need the shield?

Probably, it stops the underside of your car getting hot. Umm, wedge something behind it? Take it off, deform it slightly and put it back again?

Re: heat shield vibration help needed
bend it a bit see if the new shape sorts the noise.
Re: heat shield vibration help needed
can someone please confirm for definate that i can take the shield off? i have deformed it a few times, but it just ends up noisy again.
i think the only thing will be to remove it - as i wont be able to re attached it as the mounts are all corroded.
i just want to make sure i wont be shooting myself in the foot by causing other issues.

I wouldn't remove it. On a hot day the radiant heat from the eggsauce pipe will be transferred to whatever it is the heat shield is trying to avoid. If it wasn't required then it wouldn't be there in the first place.
You can only wedge something behind it or bend it/put a kink in it.
