DMF fault? Symptoms?
Well guys, my 407 has developed a loud rattle from the gearbox area which goes away when you press the clutch.
Usually, I would be thinking there's a gearbox bearing fault, but I am wondering if I have a possible DMF failure.
I'm not very familiar with the symptoms of DMF failure and would be grateful if anyone that has had or heard of DMF failure what the symptoms are.
I can't ask in the 407 forum as I forgot my password and have been locked out trying to login.
The mileage is just under 40, 000.

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Thanks jamjar
I managed to have a proper look this morning in the daylight, definitely a DMF problem.
£430 for the parts....clutch and dual mass flywheel.
Ah well, I always knew it would go sooner or later, I thought i would have got more miles out of it than 40,000, especially as the car only gets motorway use.

Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
I was hoping one of the regulars who's had dealings (either Puggy or Welly I think) would give some input. There's a few vids of DMF failures on other cars on ewetoob showing one half of the flywheel moving a long way while the other holds still, giving off some nasty clanking noises. How this sounds inside the car I don't know...
Anyway, yes, 40k is rubbish. Worth having a scream at Pug?

Fairly sure mine's on the way south too.
Symptons on mine so far - tickover vibration much more noticeable and increasing, ( pretty sure it's not engine mounts). Also vibration under hard accelleration, also increasing. No noises, yet.
I've got a pretty full history, seems to still be on the original at 147k, 10k since remap.
Best price I've found so far, DMF + Clutch kit £400 delivered inc VAT, parts only.

I was involved in replacing Puggy's DMF, I bought it for him and helped to fit it.
I spoke to Peugeot a few minutes ago, to be fair to them they said it is an issue they would definitely consider looking into, BUT, I need to get the car into a dealer to have it properly diagnosed and a reason for failure found, then they would maybe look at contributing to the cost.
I would probably be best doing the job myself.
Doggy, symptoms on mine are nothing until the engine warms up about halfway then a low rumble from the gearbox side and the clutch vibrating a little when pressed....when fully warmed up there is a very loud rattle from the gearbox side and a vibration on the clutch pedal, noise goes off when clutch fully depressed.

I suspect we will be discussing a similar activity in the not too far distant future.....jasper5 wrote:I was involved in replacing Puggy's DMF, I bought it for him and helped to fit it.

Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
Greetings. Not long replaced the clutch and dmf on my hdi 110. When the clutch went, i had no audiable warning at all, just clutch slip in the higher gears. This was after 205,000 on the original clutch and dmf. 40k does sound fairly rubbish. Be good to hear what pug say.

Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
i would recomend getting a valeo one and fitting it, fitted one to a taxi at work and that still going strong after 110k

The £430 is for a Valeo clutch and DMF.
Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
The car is going in to Peugeot on tuesday for a decision if they will pay for it or not.
Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
Was going to join in earlier but i washed my keyboard and now it doesn't
work so using on screen pad . When i thought mine was going it was rattling
and screeching . Yes jasper and his mate did it , and very good they were too.
It turned out it was just the thrust bearing and i think jasper would agree there
was quite a bit of life left in clutch and dmf . As everything was there would
have been silly not to change them

.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
Re: DMF fault? Symptoms?
Yes, I remember it well, clutch/DMF would have been ok for a while, but more cost effective to change everything all at once.
I was thinking of doing this job myself if Peugeot won't pay, but my wife has banned me from doing big, heavy jobs like that....I have serious heart issues...
My mate is going to do it on saturday for beer money if Peugeot don't pay.
