As some may remember I was getting a flat battery but yet the volts on the battery (new one.....680amps) was 14.2 on idle and alternator was giving out 14.2 aswell. So I checked all the fuses. The fuse to the fag lighter had blown so I put a new one in only for it to blow within 10 seconds of being installed. So I removed the fuse. Battery flat the next day......Then I removed the fag lighter element leaving just the plug that goes into it..........No more flat battery!! So if I get a new fag lighter element all should be ok......or should it??
Thanks in advance
Paul

If what you're saying is that the fag lighter element has been consuming enough power to drain your battery, then I'd count myself lucky it hadn't set fire to the car. No-one really needs them, so why not just do without?

Mine isn't draining the battery, but it is blowing the fuse.
Replace the socket body - they're not expensive, and if it fixes the problem for you, then that's great - you get your lighter socket back (and people (like me) use them the whole time, for charging phones and satnavs, not necessarily for lighting up (I, for one, don't smoke and never have))

Yeah just replace it with a brand new one, don't take chances. I seem to remember there's a second position in the fuse box for the fag lighter fuse to make it live permanently rather than from the ignition - I think you literally move the fuse to the next slot along? but don't quote me on that

So the fag lighter was draining the battery even though the fuse was blown?

Indeed so Steve.....It got me aswell!
I think what dogslife has said was interesting..... Lucky it had not set fire to my car!
I am like highlander aswell. I dont smoke but find the cig' lighter very handy for my mobile phone charger and satnav......I am also a nonsmoker!
So this is the part that I think.....Shall I get a new one or will the same thing happen?! Going to call Peugeot up in a moment and find out how much they are.
Paul.
