Does turning the boost up to 12psi on an sri do any damage?
alot of people say its fine going from the standard 8 psi to 12psi but the odd person says no youll break the turbo etc, so will it do any harm or not? i dont wanna ruin the reliability or having anything else break on it.

personally i would leave it well alone.

So don't try to get more power out of it - simple. They're a very solid engine but trying to get more power out of any engine will SIGNIFICANTLY increase the risk of failure, especially on this one...jason1987 wrote:i dont wanna ruin the reliability or having anything else break on it.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

It probably won't do any damage in the short term but I'd be very very careful and possibly leave it alone if you aren't sure what your getting into.
I have a bleed valve on mine and currently have it set to boost to 14psi and it then drops back down to 12psi higher up in the rev range, I'm pretty confident that my car isn't running lean as I had it on a dyno running 8-10psi and it was over fueling slightly so should be ok. I'm pretty certain that the turbo will not last more than a few months at this rate but then I'm taking the engine out for a rebuild and a new turbo anyway before it ends up in a 205 so I'm not too concerned about blowing it up
Its actually pretty nippy with 14psi, And if you do decide to go ahead and up the boost DO NOT go more than 14psi or you'll run the risk of doing serious damage to the engine.
Just tweaking it slightly to around 10psi gives it a bit more torque and will minimise the risk of damage but its always going to be a concern.

also if you go over 14 expect your car to go in limp mode as the map sensor only reads up to a 1bar

ill just wait till i get a proper turbo car lol before i start playing with engine

Check all the intercooler pipework and flexible joints for leaks, as any leak at 8 psi makes a big reduction on performance and if you increase the boost pressure the pipework and couplings need to be in as new condition. As for the increase in power above standard this will impact on reliability. Its always a trade off.. power to reliability.

is there any easy way to check for leaks? as my car feels funny when im going along at about 2k revs at a steady speed, seems a bit jumpy but cant think it would be

let me know what you find with the jerky thing cos mine does the same.
