wierd fault

Post by andymacg »

hey up folks

got a weird fault thats just started happening on my 1.8 16v, every now and then as soon as you select reverse ,the engine, splutters then it just cuts out, unless you keep the revs above 2500, doesnt do it all the time just now and then andit doesnt do it any of the forward gears
makes for interesting reversing when it happens.
any ideas whats up ?

Is this when you shove it in gear but before you lift the clutch or anything? What happens if you disconnect the reversing light switch?

Manual or automatic?

You might have to leave it disconnected to give the fault time to happen.

I can't imagine how the brake light circuit would affect the engine running, unless the wires are munched somewhere. Oooh, while the air filter's off check out the wiring you can see under there.

Lucky! I can see that being nearly impossible to find if it weren't obvious!
