This Focus is bloody strange...

Post by Bailes1992 »

I HAVE A WOBBLE!!!!!!

And it's really fustrating.
70mph+ I have a wheel wobble. The wobble dosen't go away with speed, it dosent get faster or slower with speed. It gets harsher with cornering and speed but it never gets faster.
Last night I was going down my private road at a smidge over 100mph and I saw traffic ahead... on my private road. I touched the breaks and I got a low pitched "Duddududududududududududu" from my front drivers side wheel. The beats were at the same frequency as the steering vibrations. So I assume there related.

My front wheels are 100% balenced and not buckled at all.
I have changed my inner and outer trackrods on both sides as they had play.
I've had full wheel alignment done.
Swapping the wheels about dosen't make a difference.
I have fitted all new discs and pads which made no difference.

I come here to ask because your able to have a discussion about it, most other forums people keep saying what popps into there head without reading my post and dissapeer.
I have been told many many times I have out of balence wheels  When I don't.

Brainstorming session please? At my wits end with this bloody vibration.

On two occasions my 406 has had similar problems with a balance-like vibration, apparently from the front. Both times it's been due to a mis-shaped REAR tyre! (I refused to beieve it too).

Had a slightly similar problem years ago with a Montego, that turned out to be a tiny bulge on a front tyre.

Met some unexpected traffic on my private test track the other night too - was that you Simon?

It's been happening since I've had the car, it's not related to the brakes at all.
When I touched the brakes my front wheel mades a "dududududu" sound at the same frequency as the vibrations I'm getting through the steering wheel.

I wonder if I have a problem with a rear wheel? I stuck Bernards wheels on the front of the Focus just to see but it was still there. :|

if your on the Anchors coming down from aton the brakes will make a racket,
if you want something that wont fade or let you down an upgrade is the way forward focus brakes standard ones are shite just like mondeo ones, ive burnt several sets out ,

try stopping at normal speeds ibet you dont get any problems then.
im not having a dig mate but dont expect standard brakes not to let you down as they will

Didn't slam on mate, I touched the brakes very slightly just to slowly bring my speed down. I never slam on on my private road:), Infact I try not to touch my brakes all together.

It's an LX. My Dad had a V reg Ghia Focus saloon (granded spec) with the 1.8 TDDi lump. That didn't have ABS either.

warped disc??
d9 hdi 90 rapier estate

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Brand new discs, had to change them as the old ones were warped. The vibration is constant, not just when I put my foot on the brake.
Only things I can think of are the CV Joints and the Steering rack?

CV joints dont usually cause vibrations . to my knowledge anyway.

do the brakes not feel as tho they are sticking slightly ?

have you been over it all checking for loose bolts (highly unlikely) but worth a look ?
