Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
Grrr, this is what I got from the first scrappy
Given that I don't know squat about towing, I don't have a trailer, I don't have a towbar on the Coupe (and don't want one), what do you guys reckon I should do with this "offer", such as it is?

Somehow I think I can get more than £100 - £150 from another scrappy. They'll certainly make more money from it than that themselves by selling off the parts. Or am I being unrealistic here? This is the first time I've ever sent a car to a scrappy, so I genuinely don't know how much I should be given for the car.Cheapskates wrote:Graeme,
If you were to remove the exhaust and wheels you would need to find our own form of transport to get the vehicle to us and we would offer you £120 for the vehicles salvage.
If you leave the exhaust and wheels on the vehicle we would pay you £150 for the salvage and collect it for you.
If you want us to collect the vehicle and then want the wheels and exhaust removed we would offer you £100 for the vehicle as we would need to cover our labour costs for removing these parts for you.

Get more offers from more breaker's? I've only ever paid to have cars removed, it was a few years back mind but this being paid for your heap by weight stuff is new to me.

Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
Last time I scrapped a car (Ford Orion in 2004), I took what I wanted off it and didn't let on.
The interior was just a pile of dismantled bits.
Though all I got was £25 for it, the original quote (even if it had been mint). I'm surprised they're worried about wheels and an exhaust.
Can you not just take the exhaust off on the sly ("It fell off") and get a set of cheap bald steelies thrown on it?

Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
Is this a scrapyard or breakrers.
I had that car with all the unwanted bits threw into it, it was badly smashed as my dad dropped it when using the forklift:

this with all the trim out, wheels off (actually they charge you for wheels at Tmet) and the exhaust out still got £180. They dont want parts all their stuff is chopped up and sent to china, and japan where they are making new stuff. Probably going to be a roewe 750

Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
Should've put that on Gumtree. "BIT OF ISOPON REDY FOR MOT i COULDING BE BOTHERED"....
There is a huge Clearway metal recycling plant at the top of the Queens Road in Belfast, beside the Titanic Quarter.
I see the scrap metal lorries from TMet etc. fly up it every day, full to the brim with old cars.
It is right at the docks, so as you say it gets shipped to China etc.
Probably saw your D9 go past the office at one point, ready for a new life as a Roewe 75

Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
There should be a few Tmet branches around norn iron, definatley one nearish belfast. They started out on the armagh road not far from me so its handy for scrapping stuff. But at the moment their prices are good, i have in the past bought cars dirt cheap and took them straight here to scrap them it can be that good at times, i got £160 for an old bx i purchased for £80.
Now for a bit of gumtree talk.
2000 Pugjoet 406 HDI Dturbo (not vectra mondeo avensis, metro 306)
Here is my fantastic car, i gat it aff a mate who lost the licence. Shes slammed to the floor, mapped to the bag and pulls like a tracter.
Te body looks dented but thats just the bodykit, its missing a few bits of trim but i havnt the time to get them.
The back window is a bit cracked, but nothing a bit of superglue cant fix.
I reorganised the inside of it missing the front seat, but a dining chair will do.
Hav to sell it cos its going great.
£5000 no timewasters.

Yep cause as soon as you get the gf pregnant it's benefits city. Then you upgrade to a Toyota Landcruiser or Vauxhall Zafira with alternating "Princess on board" and <english football club> stickers all over the windows.FarmerPug wrote:alternativley have to sell coz i got the girlfriend pregnant. Re: Saloon going for MOT on Friday
Fair play.
The other half's Fiesta (34k miles) got through last Saturday, just needed a numberplate bulb.
Looked like it was soldered, Lindsay Ford parts were shut, EuroCarParts didn't have the whole thing, went to Halfrauds who had the bulb. I then discovered that if it is soldered it shouldn't rotate.
Just clipped in.
So bombed home, numberplate light sorted and up it went.
