If your heaters are fine Gary, and if the cars done that since you changed the sensor it could well be the coolant levels settling down or an airlock, try topping up and running it up to temp with the coolant cap off to dispel any airlocks (keep an eye it doesnt boil over as if the coolants not under pressure it will boil over, check for any obvious leaks especially around the replaced sensor (small ones are hard to find on a hot engine) so check for marks from burned off coolant) whack some k-seal in for good measure, fill her up with diesel and go from there

Hi, my Brother in Law used Steel Seal in his Renault Clio about 2 years ago and it's still going strong. He was told by the Motor Factor to follow the instructions to the letter ! He reckons it's the best £30 he's ever spent. kev

well. panick over.

found my water leak. after changing the coolant sensors i thought it could be them. found coolant all around the bottom of the thermostat housing.

so took sensors out and put PTFE tape on the threads. .

after that still had water under the housing. i dried it all fully then started engine and water is seeping out the thermostat .

so it needs a new thermostat cos the seal has gone. i took thermostat out and cleaned the rubber seal.put it back in a different way and its still leaking

ye im pleased as well mate. didnt wanna get rid of it.

i put PTFE tape on to make sure it wasnt them before removing the thermostat and loosing half my coolant.

anyway the quick fix didnt work - putting thermo in a different way. so ordered a new one just now off euro car parts.

will change it when it arrives and top up with ready mixed coolant.

That ready mixed stuff will be ok now winters out the way, but its usually pi$$ water, I would flush and do a 50/50 mix when it starts getting really cold again

I had the same thing on my thermostat housing... i put a thin smear of silicone around the housing before nipping it up and never had a problem since.. apart from a mahoosive hole in the head gasket of course!! Im glad its not your Hg!

i will probably put a bead of silicone around it when i fit new thermostat.

altho with a new stat it shouldnt leak. i changed the housing last year because it was warped so unless thats happened again it should be ok without silicone.

now i have a bottle of K-SEAL that i dont need. general traffic parts will not take it back because its under the fluids & liquids policy. non returnable
