Had my 2004 2.0 HDI for 2 years before realising that the engine bay cover was supposed to be
fixed down. Obviously the mountings had broken. Garage said it was important to secure it or damage to components could occur. I'm not too sure about that. I never had an engine cover on my previous 306 TD 1.9 and incidentally neither did I have an engine cover UNDER the car. I actually removed latter because it is such a pain. Peugeot dealers confirm that the under engine cover is not essential although granted that it helps keep salt etc at bay in the winter. Returning to the engine bay cover issue - a posting by Jasper5 two years ago suggested 4 renault exhaust mountings as a more durable fixing solution. Sounds like a good idea to me and I will look around for the parts. In the meantime any comments please - especially from Jasper5?

Re: Engine Covers
your 306 xud wouldnt have had 1 from the start. xud engine dont have covers.
only the newer HDi engines have covers.
i agree with disco. stick it in the shed of under the stairs.

Re: Engine Covers
This is true. Mine rubbed the insulation off some of the wires underneath it. Caught it just in time.panadero wrote:...it was important to secure it or damage to components could occur...
I got some new posts and clips off eBay, but they weren't as good as the original ones. Do the job though.
Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Just buy the Renault 5 exhaust mountings, 4 X 6mm nuts and some washers.
Unscrew the old mounts and screw on the new mounting rubbers, fit the cover and fit the washers and nuts...job done.
