I'll Keep this short 406 society!
I'm a 405 driver and have been since nearly the beginning of my driving career 2 odd years ago. Sadly a 1.8 glx isn't rapid or Turbo... I'm buying a 205 this next coming week when i get paid from a colleague if all goes to plan as a backup car, selling my 405 as soon as i replace the starter in this 205 then i will be shopping for a 406 2.0 Turbo.
I basically joined up here so that I could document my findings on the 406 front and get ideas on how to get more power out of it! (Hence the backup car!)
If anyone is interested in a well looked after 405 with plenty of tread all-round, a refurbed alternator, new start motor, new sunroof motor and aircon that genuinely works!? Make me an offer, its got alloys, mi16 front and back bumpers and looks the part with only 129000 miles!
Drop me a hi guys!

Hello!
If you're looking for a car to work on performance mods on, I would avoid the petrol 2.0 Turbo models of the 406, as the XU10 J2TE is just not that sort of engine (people have described it as "very lazy").
Diesel tuning is another matter entirely - our very own Dogslife (referred to as Doggy) has a 406 HDi 2.2, which has a stock power output of 136 HP, but has removed the particulate filter element and remapped the ECU to get a whopping 180 HP out of the engine. Torque is also much improved as a result of this remap.
I'm sure that with a good stainless steel exhaust, uprated turbo and intercooler, and performance air filter, you could get a fair bit more out of an HDi 2.2. I guess it all depends on how much you're willing to spend.

Hello,
In response to your post I got myself a very good value 406 exec Turbo, only problems being EML issue i can't sort till I've multimetered the harness and OBD ports against ECU, slight suspension geometry issue I'm guessing? (Pulls right ever so slightly), broken fog light, slightly unlevel front right hheadlight, idling erratics, boot leaking and radiator leaking :-) when the EML is off it goes factory new with its newly rebuilt head and valves with only 74.5k of motorway hardship (I hope!) I've got a couple of mods planned and underway at the moment and need to wait for some pleasant weather during the evening to finish them off to say the least so expect more of me 406ers!!
Ciao for now ;-)
