After my accident there was a delay, but I'm not sure if they would be on the scene after a more serious accident? Or perhaps take police photos as evidence?FarmerPug wrote:how long a delay is there between your car getting a scrape on it and them inspecting it, wouldnt you have time to unretrofit such additions?

But I must add that I think the European ruling is total b*ll*x, and it should have been left the way it is.
There's a couple of years age difference between my niece and nephew. She drives sensibly and has never had an insurance claim or speeding ticket - the Nephew on the other hand drives like an absolute prat, has written off 3 cars, and has god knows how many points on his licence. The ridiculous thing is that he thinks he's the better driver

Nah mate Bulgarian. Nah wouldn't call the Lada a sh*t car, it was great! Such a good thing to work on, you literally used a screwdriver, a roll of duct tape and a MAH00SIVE hammer to fix anything, not that anything ever went wrong with it. It was as surprising to Audi drivers as a 406 is with dual webbers on the stock 1.2 with a ported head and seats, carpets etc. removed. It probably weighed around 700 kiloes and had around 90 bhp. Even with the stock 4 speed it was.. hehelozz wrote:ah didnt know you was a Russian todd![]()

My Chinese Take-Away delivery operative has a Mitsi Pajero - Junior, it's kinda cool actually but only has a 1.1 petrol - you won't break any records out there but that might be to your insurance-related advantage?
I think they retain their value well, they are all Jap-imports so are nice and tidy but not sure on the insewerance?? might be a killer being an import? but then again a specialist insurer might be able to help?
Pic found on google: (other colours available at no extra cost)

(feel free to call me a twat for bringing this up)

Re: Something a little bit more.. insurable
Ladas are erm.... OK. They rust like hell but they have "character". I guess I am a little biased as I am actually Russian! My uncle had a whole load of them - best one was the 4x4 Niva, very rugged but capable. Without power steering and clutches made out of concrete, they are not the easiest ones to drive! But great fun over Russian fields ....and "roads".
Back on topic... my girlfriend has a 1.1L Panda on 07 plate. I like it. It's very basic - didn't even have a cigarette lighter socket - but also quite honest. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not and it does what says on the tin. 1.1 isn't the fastest thing out there but it is functional.
With regards to insurance... I cheat a bit and put my mum's address in Somerset as a place where the car is kept, as it brings the insurance down from £500 to sub-£300 (I am in Tunbridge Wells). Also, put your mum as a named driver - it may help bring it down. Putting my girlfriend on the policy takes it down by around £50.
Finally, when you get a cheap quote from a comparison site, get top 5 quotes, go to individual sites and get a quote directly from them. More often than not, it works out cheaper.

Ah yes, the "kopeyka" - coming from the model number 2101, or, shortened, "1" = 1 kopek (penny).

Re: Something a little bit more.. insurable
Lada Niva was meant to be a capable non-pretentious honest 4x4. Did it not fit the XUD too?
Riva, my da says he drove one and the steering didn't feel connected to anything that was happening on the road.
Remember Top Gear Lotus'ed one up? (was it Renault-Lotus or Lotus-Renault who are now sponsored by Lada?)

Just came back from an exam..
Went well but it's still an exam. Anyway I tried all you guys' recommendations so far and I still think the Panda is probably my best price/ammount of car you get compromise. Would you say the Corsa C has better handling than the Panda? Any experience with them, because I'm fairly sure that picking up a 1.0 or a 1.3 (Same engine as I plan on getting with the Panda) wouldn't affect a quote substantially. Any experience with them? Just in case you're not sure which the C is it's this one:

Thanks for your help so far guys!

Commonly known as the mk2 Vauxhall Corsa (Corsa 'A' was a Nova).
Doesn't seem to have been as boyracered as the mk1/Corsa B.
So usual small car checks would apply?
Service history, no strange noises, no alloys/bodykit, no blown HG etc. etc.

They're not too bad, but my only experience was with a nearly new one as a hire car. If you quite like the Panda, you are probably better off getting one of those. There's more space inside, you'd get a newer Panda than you would a Corsa & you may even manage to get into a diesel one.
Fiats have their value knocked pretty hard because of the old unreliable ones, but think they've come on a long way since then. You'll also probably find that a newer Panda will be more reliable than an older Corsa too, mainly because there's been less idiots messing with it!

Thanks mate! I've driven an Agila 1.0, in Opel shape with the steering wheel on the erm.. what can only be described as the correct side of the vehicle. It made a cracking good sound, shame it didn't do much in the way of actually going anywhere. I didn't like the electric power-steering in them either but they're pretty close as far as rubbery feel and awkward self-centering goes. There must be some way to make it feel better, surely?waue1978 wrote:They're not too bad, but my only experience was with a nearly new one as a hire car. Oh I don't mind about value, I'm going to run it until the pistons come out of the exhaust and then some

The Agila was really a Suzuki. Some sort of licencing agreement GM had.
