the comm2000 doesnt worry me TBH. a 52/53 plate 2.2 is sounding good remapped to 180bhp...

it all depends on what is for sale at the time of me buying and the price.

ive been looking at 2.0 110s executive which are still very nice motahs and the 110 could be remapped to 140 which will be fine for me....

When looking at a 110 try to secure a 45+ minute test drive (offer to pay for the diesel if it helps) and get the transmission good and hot - then watch carefully for clutch slippage when pulling hard through 2000 rpm in 5th. Any slippage will be known about by a private seller and will provide a nice bargaining tool - the 'problem' is not that big a deal and can be lived with (as standard 110bhp).

It slips due to a worn DMF/Clutch combo but only presents itself after a good bit of use, great if your a seller - not so great for the buyer on the way home......

Another tell-tale is a loud chirp/squeek as soon as the engine fires up and when coming on/off the clutch sharply.

All HDi's appear to have a silly-high biting point and high pedal but that seems 'normal'.

sometimes not all i get the dmf squeak when setting off usually in the cold but it didnt affect driving. still better to get a solid conversion if possible
also the hdi has a cover over the engine the clips are utter poop so just replace them with bolts but what happened with my car was the dipstick kept coming up and i thought i had HG faulure on the way luckilly the cover vibrates and just pushes it up.

If you're considering a 110 with a 140bhp remap, it might be worth noting that poor Lozz had to get his gearbox changed at 120k as it couldn't handle the extra grunt. Had been considering it myself until I saw that.

well that settles that then 110 bhp my car will stay, its no ball of fire, but it doesnt use any oil or water and you dont hear of turbos blowing so its a fairly durable engine.

Bear in mind my gearbox is OK. Is it not a BE-series gearbox issue?
IIRC, 405 1.9D & TD gearboxes weren't bullet-proof, wouldn't Lozz's HDi have a BE3 too?
v6's, 2.1's, 2.2's & later 110's are all ML5's, (I think).

The 306 HDi's have been run with 160bhp + with no effects other than having to fit an aftermarket clutch.

I assume Lozz's gearbox was maybe abit worn in the first place.

Must stop looking at this thread... your making me want a 406 again and I've already decided it's a bad idea

As much as I really really want another 406 I begrudge paying an extra £400 a year for a HDi 110, £120 a year for a HDi 90, £370 for a 2.1TD and £80 for a 1.9TD :|

But If I find the Perfect Exec or SE then I may may mayy have to raid the piggy bank
