Thank you everyone for your welcome.
I would like to briefly share my 406's history since I purchased it.
Soon after purchase I found a small leak coming from the brake fluid cylinder. That was easily fixed with a new seal.
The entertainment system has got a 6 CD autochanger which always suffered from the skipping of the pickup over the CD. After trying several ways of improving the way the changer was fixed to the bodywork, I ended up putting bubble-wrap around the thing which acted as a good shock absorber, and still works well to this day!
I have replaced a the back light LEDs in the display unit which indicates entertainment information. Generally they have found to be reliable, although 2 need replacing again.
The air con compressor has packed up which needs replacing; this I will do when money is available. I do miss the system as it has worked extremely well, especially clearing condensation from the windows.
2 years ago it suffered engine problems which needed all injectors to be replaced, and the EMU being taken away and tested.
I have had occasional problems with airbag warnings intermittantly being displayed. This was found due to a poor connection in a connector block in the harness located underneath the driver's seat. Simply disconnecting then reconnecting the connector had fixed the problem.
The outstanding problem I have is a leak coming from one of the injectors. I am having a devil of a job to remove the injector in order to clean off the carbon deposit and replace the seal but it is very difficult to lift the injector uo off the block. I have tried using screwdrivers, but no luck as yet. Are there any specific tools I need to do this? Any advice would be welcome.
The paint work is fairly reasonable, with the odd scratch here and there. The previous owner had an accident with it, and the body work was repaired but did not do a good job of the paintwork as the surface has reeled and looks rather grubby.
In general I like the car very much. It is comfortable, handles well a delight to drive and economical; around town I get 40mpg, and on a good run it's about 55 - 60mpg, which is outstanding compared to my previous car being a Vauxhall Vectra which gave about 25mpg.
Take care, and I will keep in touch
Mike
