Ouch! Everyone OK?

The insurance company will write off both cars. My 1.8 D9 saloon had a scratch and a lightly-dented wing, and it was classed as a write-off.

Sorry to hear of your plight.

Defo both write offs (although the Fiesta could in theory be salvaged with a wing, a prayer and a bumper; the 406 looks like the B pillar is bent out of shape).

Hope you weren't injured, looks like drivers side took a huge hit. Always a shock immediately when these things happen.

Both suffering with whiplash - insurers are sending a hire car which is relieving the stress.

B Pillar is fubarred beyond believe. Definately a write off on the 406 which is a shame - it might seem a horrid car to some people but its done 87k miles. We've put 30k on it with only 1 exhaust and clutch to its name!

Wondering what we are getting as a hire car now though!!

I dare someone to run that Fezza's reg through the 'askmid' insurance data base :supafrisk:

So he's come to the crest of the hill and pulled that enormous skid mark and side-swiped your car?

Insurance is all checked by my claims company last night and he is insured.....

It was more down hill he was coming, but saw the lorry and didnt slow down when he saw the first hazard until the cars that had slowed down to let the lorry past! Which was too late!

Sad to see an end of a nice D8. Howver, I feel the write-off policy is bit too strict as if this accident would've happened here, both cars would've repaired nicely as not major structural damages

Its purely because of the costs involved.

In the UK garages charge a fortune for their services, and old cars are cheap.

So when a repair (doors + respray + straightening out B pillar) may cost £1500 but the car is valued by the insurance company at perhaps £1000, it doesn't become economically viable!

The fiesta is probably worth about £300, with the Ford rust around the wheelarches, and repair for it is proably going to be £700 at least.

Thanks for all the trouble in explaining. Yeah, understood why it's not financially viable, however, what if the car has some sentimental value attached to it? would insurer consider giving a claim?

whatever said and done, I shouldn't show this to our local garage guys :D :D

Sunblind? In a 1.8? Not likely. Correct me if I'm wrong though :)

I am going to be looking out for another 406 - ideally an estate would be good especially a HDI - preferably 110.

So if anyone is getting rid then please let me know, but alas mine is with the assesor, hoping that ill be able to buy it back as i have a 6 month old exhaust on it New from the cat exit down, some decent rubber and wheels and other bits and pieces, and if anyone else is after bits then let me know!

Have got a new - well 500 mile old Top Engine Stabilizer/Mount and other bits!
