Recession-proof motoring?

Post by Doggy »

My bro's just got back from a few weeks in France, jammy git got an invite from one of the locals to stay for this little party:- http://www.fetes.bayonne.fr/
He's been away for just over 2 weeks this time, making 5 trips so far to France & 2 to Scotland for the trusty D8 wagon, which has flown through 2 MOT's in the time he's had it and spent most of that time being used as a van for all his plumbing kit.

Cost him 800 quid & runs on about 80% FOC used veg oil. :supafrisk:

He reckons on getting another year or two out of it too, then might finish the job of wearing out a certain 2.2 hdi exec estate, (if he's got his biodiesel plant working by then).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I didn't think you'd get away with using biodiesel in an HDi? Or would it simply be a case of use the bio until it goes bang?

What would be the next Doggymobile after that then?

Well made biodiesel can go in ANY diesel!

But if it's not washed properly after the methanol and sodium hydroxide is added them it will blow all the seals :)

When the Llanelli Scarlets play Ulster at Ravenhill they get some abuse, but it's all in good banter with a few pints from the beer tent :)
