Post by iangt4 »

Hi all, bought a 406 2.2 HDi yesterday to find the diesel particulate filter needs changing, i can see a few guys have done this from trying to trawl the archives but no real explainations of whats required.
i am sure its on here somewhere but i can't see it lol.
Is there a "How To" ? what else would i need to do ?
The car is a oct 2001 2.2 HDi
Thanks in advance

I don't think there is a How-To guide for changing & servicing the DPF, but you may find this interesting:

Well as the FAP would no longer be functional due to the remap I don't think you'd ever have to buy that expensive fluid ever again.

Hi Ian & welcome to the forum. 8)

There's not so many of us 2.2 HDi owners about - only about 800 saloons / estates were ever registered in the UK. The engine is far more common in the 406 coupe and there is much relevant info on their website, http://www.peugeot406coupe.com/phpBB3/ including a detailed howto on cleaning out the dpf or 'FAP'.

I also recommend you have a look through my voyage of discovery, here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10429&hilit=+aunty

All is not doom & gloom - you can convert your car to do away with the dpf, additive and all the complicated gizmos it needs to work and it need not cost you much - (about £50 if you pay someone to remove the element and buy a flash programmer to download a defapped file).

If you're located near someone with the kit, it's even simpler......

Whereabouts are you?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

WOW ! i didnt realise they were that scarce, is that because the engines were crap or just expensive ? i really hope the later lol  i own a garage in Nottingham and used to work on the 405 / 406 1.9td & 2.0Hdi an awful lot (we had about 15 we used to rent as taxi's) about 10 years ago.... since then i moved into performance toyota's. i bought this car as a workhorse.... kid carrier, but as with all my cars i will be making it perfect. going to get it on the ramp today to make sure its worthy of the time, money & attention and trying to bang, scrub, change and service the years of negelect the previous owner has put into her  i will be removing the DPF internals today as well as giving her a bloody good service as she's desperate, ive purchased a Galletto 1260 EOBD2 OBDII CAN ECU Flasher Remap Tool yesterday off ebay in preperation of removing the DPF, all i need to find out is where get the 180bhp map from
Thanks for the reply and hopefully i will get her back to former glory, spent 8 hours yesterday scrubbing "Scum" out of the interior and detailing inside. service & exterior over the next couple of days. she will be a good one again :cheesy:

I can help you with that - but you need to PM me a direct e-mail address.

Also important to know whether you have one of the later fully-multiplexed cars - at Oct 2001 I think it will be the later type, (which have a COM2000 stalk unit, characterised by rotary selectors on the audio and cruise stalks).

Either way, we have the technology.
