Hi all New 406 2.2 HDi Owner

Post by iangt4 »

Hi all

Just thought i would nip in here and introduce myself, Names Obvious, but just in case its Ian and i hail from Nottingham :op

Saturday i bought a rather sorry 2001> 406 2.2 HDi Executive Estate in gold/ titanium off eBay, although the previous owner was very economical with his description of the car
its basically solid, Spent all day Sunday scrubbing and detailing the negelect out of the interior, all day today compounding and polishing the neglect out of the exterior and shes looking smart again
(will look better when i get another front bumper) Steam cleaning the engine and floor revealed quite a good car underneath.
Mechanically i need to

1: service (2800 miles over, although i was told it was just over)
2: Brakes all round
3: Windscreen
4: Crank Pully
5: Com2000 .... Indicator doesnt work on the right turn (going to attempt a repair)
6: FAP/ Diesel Particulate Filter
7: ABS rings on both front drive shafts
8: Sort drivers seatbelt pretensioner, abs fault (light comes on when seat moves so break in wiring somewhere)
9: front bumper replacement
10: remove none working satnav and instal a kenwood with ipod control

so a few bits to keep me busy for a couple more days lol.

But shes cleaned up really well after hours of scrubbing, so shes worth doing with only 100k on the clock !!!

Lesson to be learned is dont buy off eBay i guess, but nothing that hard work and a few £££ wont sort

Thanks in advance for any help advice i recieve and i hope to be able to contribute

its a good idea to enter your location in your signature,as people might have bits but its to far to travel etc.

Hi Ian & welcome to the forum, 8)
(though we've already 'met' on your other thread).

If it's the car plod was refering to, I had noted this extract from the description:
eBay seller wrote:2.2 HDI means it is the FAP model which uses Eolys Fluid injected into the tank. Ran out of this a little while back but have some to go with the car. Doesn't affect the way the car runs it just comes up with an error message on the MFD and has a warning light on the dashboard. This can either be topped up or you can De-FAP the car which is explained in detail on the 406 onwers club forum at 406oc.co.uk these guys are great help.
Ah well, fame at last

Mine does the Airbag Fault thing from time to time - just unplug / re-plug all the connectors under the seat that's doing it & you''ll probably make it go away for a few months at least.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

yeah thats the one m8, looks much better in the photo's than it was in real life, but its cleaned up really well (two days later), was cheap enough, just wish the previous owner was 100% honest, but i'm not totally unhappy, will just cost me more than i was hoping for to end up with a good car
