i read somewhere, i think it was richard hammond going on about people spending a lot of money modifying cars, but not actually improving them, and a good business opportunity would be to have a de modifying company.

That would be the episode where they tried to make an Avantime go round the track as fast as a Lancer Evo. Spent a fortune on suspension brakes & wheels & ended up slower than standard! Didn't get any quicker until they stripped it out!

I think there may be a market opportunity for a company to take classics and 'upgrade' them, perhaps better suspension, engines, brakes.

Already been done. There's a company somewhere near me that does it with XJS Jags, there's a place that does old Astons & Jag E Types, another that does the Jensen Interceptor - all been on Top Gear.

Is it me or is there a distinct British theme with this? Perhaps if we built them properly to start with...

You could tell the Jensen Interceptor had an American engine - it was a 7.2 litre V8, but it only put out 284 HP...

i thought it was only 200bhp but even 300bhp from 7.4 litres isnt a lot.

i had a sit inside a nearly new 3008, its a damage repairable that a mechanic friend of my dad is going to repair, but they are a really nice car to sit inside, the driving position is up high and the dash has a great centre console:



as for indicator stalks i dont think a com 2000 has ever failed as badly as this:

Not a fan of the 30000008s.

They're trying to be something like a Nissan Qashqow.

Never saw the appeal of sitting up high on a car.
Feels like a Leyland Tiger or a Transit.

Once drove a 4x4 on-road and didn't enjoy it. Felt like driving a tank, difficult to get a concept of width and the steering wheel felt like a poorly implemented attachment for a Sega Saturn, didn't fully correspond to reality.

Done plenty of off-roading to appreciate the abilities of a proper off-roader, but don't see the point of the soft-roaders that will never ever be off-road.

your not as high as a proper jeep in the 3008 but there is something cozy about the dash layout.
peugeot interior quality has jumped up a lot in this car there is a lot of shiny aluminium and leather with exposed stitching and this is still a fairly basic model.

the driving position would appeal to my grampa he finds it ackward to bend and twist to get into his polo but one of these is ideal

some 4x4s really are wolly things on the road my uncles old 3 door shogun was rather fast but when it come to a corner there was so much body lean it would give you sea sickness. and although the hilux handles better on the road there is much firmer suspension and the rear leaf spring suspension means it jitters all over the road

My old Hilux Surf was pretty good on the road & used to kick the a*se out a touch now & again if you booted it round a mini roundabout, but the first 4x4 I drove was a 3 door Frontera & that thing was hideous round the bends. Almost had to stop it before the corner.

You know, I didn't even spot the spoiler. Definitely needs to go though.

There was actually a touring car replica on a few days ago, but wasn't kitted - just had all the decals.

I would love a proper touring car replica for the road. Not this modern crap, but something from the golden age of touring cars in the mid 90s. Even better would be something from the DTM...

Remember the Volvo estate touring car?
Half the site would like that.

They used to run touring cars in production spec - without spoilers etc.

It was only Alfa with their 155 had a production spec with batmobile spoilers that they then had to introduce and harmonise spoiler regulations.

Volvo had to switch to the saloon. Although Honda recently raced the Civic and Seat with the Leon which are almost-estate rear ends, so I don't see why Volvo couldn't race an estate again.

In addition to the shoddy paintwork and the stupid spoiler, he hasn't actually shown any photos of the engine bay to highlight the work he says he's done.

And he writes in really big letters, which is a eBay pet peeve of mine. You're not writing a book for small children, or a large-print copy for the visually impaired - you're advertising a bloody car, you nob.

That said, if he has turbocharged the ES9 J4 engine, it would be interesting to see how well it performs compared to the original engine.

Also, I'm not keen on the Momo steering wheel.

being a fan of the wood in my car i actually like that steering wheel, although they probably dont fit into the d9.
i see the spoiler, but theres also a picture of the normal d8 spoiler, one of them would sit on a d9 no problem.

but a v6 turbo, that thing would eat evo's and imprezzas at the lights no problem.

I went and saw the Thundersaloons at Mallory on Monday, and they would definately be my cup of tea
