plus you don't have to post those litres through a stupidly designed round hole

I had a 407 sw on test and the boot space / opening means it will never be a replacement for my 406 :(

The other half's dad had people baffled, challenging them to open the boot!

Those who have used a 407 boot will know what I mean ;)

the 407 suffers from the same electrical gremlins that the 406 did and yes some of the 1.6's have had turbo issues mostly caused by poor servicing by previous keepers and while your nearly right bailes about the frip/balljoint theyre about £30 from ebay and as jasper says a 20 minute job, also thers a newer/updated version that doesnt suffer the water ingress problem(so sorting that)
as for the DPF/fap its getting very common now to just have it removed or indeed buy a new dpF For around £180 (Not that pricey then)

YES the DMF can fail but as most modern diesel cars have them its summat you gotta live with if you want a more modern car

The boot is about the same size as the 406 saloon in my opinion.

Given the choice i think you would definatly have to have a decent test-drive in both and go from there as BOTH can be pricey to keep on the road if you buy a one that hasnt been serviced/looked after properly

Think Jasper was referring to the saloon. But there does seem to be a trend for stupidly shaped holes on all estates these days. Saw an Insignia the other day & it looks like the back of a bin lorry where the whole back end lifts up yet it still leaves bugger all room to get things in!
FarmerPug wrote:I like the 407 its not as good looking as the 406 (the d9 grille is a lot better looking and i understand the 505 connection it makes it look agressive),
but having said that the 407 is not far off from looking nice the right colour and a bit of chrome on the front grille and it looks nice enough sort of like a cheap maserati quattroporte, and when comparing the estates i prefer the look of the 407 more than the 406.
I always preferred the look of the D8s from the outside. I'm the other way round on the 407 estates - I reckon the 406 estate looks nicer than the 407 estate. Peugeot seemed to go with this whole triangular rear window theme on all their estates from the 407 on & I just don't like the look.

I guessed as much but gumby6371 specifically referred to the sw. Interestingly the sw adds only 23 litres over the saloon which comes in at .... 407 litres!

Being vertically challenged, the 406 is one of the few cars where I can actually use the armrests. 407's dont work. :(

I've tried talking myself into a 407 2.2 twin turbo, but think I really prefer the 406. Just wish I could get a 5-year old one with a 6-speed box.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

the armrests is one area where the 406 wins, very few cars have the proper armrest each mounted high on the chair like the 406, i think they are great because i can still reach the gearstick and handbrake with them down and they have a good cushon in them.

Armrests are very Marmite. I love em and didn't buy a very nice S on ebay as it didn't have them... The rest of my family cant stand them complaining it is in their armpit.

It's a pity I couldn't make the meet-up, I was looking forward to giving people a ride in the 407.

BTW, I saw a 407 Coupe the other day in the Red metallic....what a stunning looking motor that was :D

Oh! and yes, the boot opening was a source of merriment when we first tried to open it :cheesy:

I'm with you on the armrests there - was the same with the C5 & the old E34 5 series. No battles for armrest supremacy when there's a set on each seat.

As far as the 6 speed box goes, I reckon you're a clutch change away from finding out Doggy. You'll also be able to confirm that theory on the vibration from the DMF too. After all, you're the pioneer on here for FAP removal already.

Sad fact is though, I'm betting that you'll replace it come clutch change time...

It was certainly a nice drive when it was brand new from what I recall. Would be interested to see how one feels a few years down the line.

'cos all other 406s are just imitations

btw afaik no d8 diesel had a trip computer.

407 - pig ugly, tiny boot (estate that is, but then i like trousers with pockets in them too) 407 coupe - much sadness. sounds like only buy a 1.6 hdi with fsh or budget for a new lump.

c5 x7 - oh yeah!

and this week i have mostly been thinking about a..... c-crosser, 2.4 petrol. mainly 'cos it's still a psa but i could actually get in & out of one without wanting to scream*. oh, and they look pretty good too, especially in black. but then i've learned my lesson with black cars - never again.

*out of interest they stuck me on a machine today to stretch my back (think medieval torture device). i'm expecting to be signed uo to a basketball team next week...
