I have a 406 1.8 rapier, it was serviced last week and the old air filter had large amount of engine oil in it, and there was oil around some of the spark plugs, I had the car serviced. On the way home it started to blow out clouds of smoke, i pulled over and lifted the bonnet and noticed oil pumping out of the dipstick tube, as i got back in the car to turn it off the 'insufficent oil pressure' warning flashed up,so i had the car recovered.
Does any one have any ideas of the cause of this problem and is it terminal ?
It's called by crankcase compression - usually cylinder pressure escaping past worn / damaged piston rings and pressurising the sump, which I fear is normally a bad sign.
Some (minor) pressure build up is normal - it's worth ensuring the crankcase breather is clear, allowing any build up to escape.....

My money would also be on piston rings, in which case you're probably talking about a replacement engine A failing head gasket could also cause this I suppose?

thanks guys-just checked the breather and thats all clear, so from what you guys have said its more technical and serious that i can deal with. Thanks for the engine offer but I wouldnt no where to start - A good excuse for a new car!!!!

The only thing I can think of was that whoever did the service didn't use the dipstick and just filled it to the brim with oil... which can be terminal. If that's what's happened then you can hope that the reason for 'oil pressure insufficient' is that one of the core plugs has blown out and the engine's dumped all its oil on the road to stop itself exploding. If that's the case you'll probably just need a new core plug, a hammer, and some new oil.
Anyone care to agree or correct me on this?
