Hi,
I have a 406 diesel estate of 1998 (S reg) and yesterday my 5th gear jumped several times while driving in normal conditions (~2000rpm on motorway).
I noticed as well that I had occasionally some difficulties in selecting some gears (mainly from second to third...).
It felt like the gear stick resisted before reaching its' position for engaging the 3rd gear (after bringing the gear stick back to neutral and trying aging to engage in 3rd it worked again).
Has anyone got any ideas about the reasons of such symptoms and the possible remedy?? (and an estimate of the costs involved!?????)
Note; I am OK at basic car maintenance and light mechanical repairs but quite warry in engaging into the opening of a gearbox asI have never done it before...
