My 1.9 diesel 406 (P reg) has just started todevelope a problem. After starting and traveling a mile or so the engine seems to cut out, and there is a noise like grinding gears (as in missed gear change) which lasts afew seconds. It restarts again ok after, then happens again soon after. But is ok after a few more miles. Not sure if its the engine cutting out causing the loss of drive and hence the gear noise or if its the gear noise making the engine cut out.
Has anyone encountered this problem before or has heard of similar and could point me in the right direction.
Many thanks

Re: Engine cutting out ?
I think a bit more information is needed as this doesn't make much sense
does the car do this whilst changing gear, low revs, high revs slow speeds high speeds if it's warm, cold etc,
do you get a warning like loss of power just before this happends, maybe it feels like someone just coupled a 10 ton trailer?
if you leave the car idling outside the house does it cut out?
Pete
