It's a smart solinoid or something.
You can replace it with a normal stop solinoid and put a live to it yes. Thats what I done on mine :)

It's a normal solenoid, just keep hold of the wire from the immob circuit as it's a spring fitting, not a nut.

I looked at that black tubing/clip you talk about. There is no slack in the cable and only about half an inch of that tubing left through the bracket so not a lot to play with.

I took it for a run this afternoon down a stretch of dual carriageway. Slight incline. Absolutely flat out down the bank 85mph. Up the incline 75mph ... and it took forever to finally get to those speeds.

Can't be right?
I had that (very similar ) with my black estate 239k on clock , put it on to biodiesel and within a month the turbo seemed to start working so i think egr was blocked .
Try putting VIN into servicebox ( there is a link here or on pug306.com ) and you can print off all the details on car which will give engine that was fitted and stuff like that

I had a similar issue with mine... turned out to be the actuator rod had siezed... get under the car and you should see a rod with a nut on it going into the turbo... you should be able to pull it by hand (it is under spring tension). If not, then it will need a good soak with Wd40. I found it easier to "Lever" it with a mahoosive screwdriver as it is quite tricky to get hold of with my fists of ham!!
