autotrader has similar cars at 2500 to 3 grand. With the faults he's admitting to and the mileage i wouldn't say more than 2. Saying that you can get a very nice 406 for that kind of money.
You might be lucky and pick it up for a grand but i'd ask for a drive before bidding.

lozz, the ABS sensors are about £70.

The noise will probably be bottom ball joints, had that on mine....ball joints are an easy fix and cost about £40 for best quality, modified ones, cheap ones are not a good option.

this one is cheap so far
And I reckon someone got a bargain on this 407 coupe.

It looks like there's a lot of the 2.0 HDi 136s about, but what exactly is the 2.0 HDi 136? Is it the 110 with a 16 valve head? Is the injection system completely different or not or what? Or is it actually a Ford engine?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Why don't you ask Doggy (very nicely) if he'd have a peek at it for you first, seeing as it isn't too far from him?

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

No 7 seat option on the 308 SW either - had one for a couple of days to go to Thamesmead & the boot was pathetic. Seen more space in a Focus hatch. The 7 seats were an option on the 307 SW (but not the 307 estate) & when the 308 came out they didn't bother with the 7 seat option as the 5008 was coming & there was already the 807 & 4007.
