Knowing my luck, something will go disastrously wrong with it within the next few weeks....

What's the deal with these "new style" MOT certificates? They are just printed out on a printer - much easier to fake...

Edit: but the real deal is recorded on DLVA/C or whoever's computer. WHich is going to be a right giggle when you buy a car

Splendid :cheesy: MOTs are a bit of a necessary evil, it's nice to know the car you're driving is safe, on the other hand it's always a complete pain in neck when it fails on something daft. Like not being able to read the writing on the seat belt release button

Mine is booked in to a garage tomorrow to look at the brakes, which have been horrifyingly bad lately

I had EBC GreenStuff front pads fitted and a set of four Goodridge braided brake hoses that HimBigChief sold me fitted to the car last month, and it's been sh*t ever since. The pedal has been alternating between being firm (which I like) and spongy (which I do not like), and has once or twice jammed completely (the pedal literally would not move unless I really booted it. Have been getting groaning noises from the brakes upon releasing the pedal, and sometimes when I brake, the pedal response feels "crumbly", like I'm pushing my foot down through a bucket of gravel.

Then last night (as I was arriving in Montrose) the "ABS/ESR system defective" message appeared, followed by the "ABS braking system defective" message, followed by the ABS Active + ABS Fault lights on the dashboard lighting up, followed by the light on the "ESP OFF" button flashing, and all coinciding with a din of beeps as the car told me the brakes had indeed gone to hell. The drive back from Montrose was decidedly scary; 10 miles of unlit twisty single-carriageway roads snaking through teeny-tiny little villages, followed by 35 miles of dual carriageway A-roads - all with sh*t brakes.

The drive to work this morning was highly unpleasant also (nose-to-tail traffic with brakes that seem to behave even worse at low speeds than they do at motorway speeds).

The Coupe Club guys reckon the mechanic who fitted the pads & hoses is incompetent and didn't bleed the brakes properly; sure enough I had it back to them to have the brakes checked and re-bled last week and the brakes were a bit better since, but have been getting worse ever since. Now the ABS warning lights have come up, obviously it's the ABS reluctor rings that are suspect; apparently they are cheap (£15-ish) so hopefully tomorrow's trip to a different garage will result in a fix that doesn't break the bank.

I can't wait to get my car back working properly again.

CJ - you are a jammy git, glad to hear you passed your MOT! Somehow I don't think mine will be as trouble-free as that. I already know I need new rear discs, and my handbrake is utter, utter sh*t also.
