Am i inviting Armageddon

Post by puggy »

Been having probs with both front and rear wipers not parking correctly, have tried
bsi reset , no joy , when wipers are on there is no longer any clicking from the bsi .
I have read about removing the shunt fuse for 15 mins to do a proper reset , anyone
done this ? or am i likely to unleash the hounds from hell and fook everything up ??

Presumably you've been looking at it over on BBA-reman, they seem pretty matter-of-fact about it over there so I can't see why it would create more trouble.

Did you manage to sort the electric window?

Sounds OK. If it were me, I'd check if you've got any BSI errors logged first, at least you can make a judgement call on whether to pull the shunt and/or try clearing the fault. That way, at least you'd know what it was complaining about, (but I recognise it might not help).

My aircon packed in earlier in the year, BSI complained of a short circuit clutch solenoid circuit, (it wasn't) and worked fine after I cleared it. Very possibly removing the shunt would have done the same thing, but at least I was able to positively prove it was a false alarm.

Defo ignition off. (You're almost certain to inadvertently break / make the circuit a few times removing or replacing it).

Just let me know if you want it de-tuned

Pulling shunt fuse, just does same thing as Disconecting Battey lead,
tried it on a imob locked picasso, it started after that,

Iagree with doggy, id follow 3min rule , disconect battery lead, 1st before pulling shunt fuse, (if you take the Gamble)
as with all things bsi Related, its to avoid the Voltage "Spike

Puggy have you tried programing the remote key recently?

Read this, if you have,

Interesting. It's always possible you could inadvertently 'programme' the key, by pressing the button unintentionally.

I had a car once (was it the Mazda?) where 'the procedure' for powering-down the ECU safely was to disconnect the battery and then hold your foot on the brake pedal (serious) so that there's a kinda 'outlet' for any residual current flying about

I though it sounded like BS to me but guess what I did when I needed to disconnect the battery once

Now then , when i did the bsi re-set i do the bit where you insert the key
and hold the button in for 10sec but that doesn't mention doing that ?

:?

ive always programed them like this,

1. Turn the Ignition switch ON.

2. Press the large Plip key button (Primary Plip)

3. Within 10 seconds press the large Plip key button (Secondary Plip)

4. If there is one remote, press the Primary plip button twice.

5. Turn ignition OFF.

6. Test Plip’s for correct operation.

NOTE : On some 406 models, Plips cannot be re-synchronised unless the battery has been disconnected for 1 minute.
