Video Converter

Post by FarmerPug »

Sorry for all these computer questions
My cousin got married a couple of weeks ago but between me and my aunt we did the video and photography for her and i am putting a wedding video together, but one of the memory cards off the camcorder with some video is in .MOD format:

(whats all the .MOI ones about?)
going on google gets a load of rubbishy video converters that leave a waterline when converted unless a full version is purchased, is there a good format converter for free available?

VLC is good for viewing the videos when nothing else will watch it, but iMovie is what I'm using to edit the stuff and i need to convert to a format it can work with.

Its working ok now, but my aunt has taken quite a few videos, to convert them all is about 3 hours
I think its worth considering the output format of camcorders before buying them, why couldn't they all save their videos in mp4 or something similar in the first place?

I discovered something much simpler, the video converting was taking ages and didn't take long before consuming lots of space on the hard drive.
Simply putting the SD card into the camera/camcorder triggers either iMovie or iPhoto to download the stuff, there is no complication at all it takes 5 mins and only saves the stuff once.
