wheres the tensioner?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

wheres the tensioner?

Post by jonesblakey »

i was gonna do the alternator belt on my 2.0l estate d8 as per instructions on here took the wheel off and i couldn't undo the screws on the wheel arch cover as they are rusted solid so i couldn't go any further as i didn't wanna make it any worse and didn't have any spare screws....now im hoping against all hope but is there a different way of getting to the tensioner?

You will need the wheel arch-liner off mate,

with that on you wont get access to it,

if iirc you need a square drive, to release the tension, ithink a ratchet or the bar from a door handle cut down might be an alternative ,

once you get the wheel off and remove the wheel arch liner, itl make it easy for you to work out

As for the rusted screws,

get an old screwdriver, & hammer, & give them atap, the shock normaly frees them off,
if they round off try get a grip of them pointy pliers or mole grips,

once there out fling them and replace them

You might be able to get to it withought removing the wheel arch liner,

ican do them on hdis that way, but end up with lots of Grazes /cuts, Very limited space,
getting the belt off is easy enough getting it back on with the limited space is a nightmare,

Make Note of the Belt Route
