Brake Lights Have Stopped Working

Help please!

1997 3.0l V6 Coupe - the brake lights have suddenly stopped working.

I don't see any obvious problem with the fuses and have read that the brake light switch is known to fail.

It's Sunday and I need to have the car on the road tomorrow.

Are the switches available from parts suppliers other than Peugeot dealers?

Very unlikely. A scrapyard's your best bet - chances are any 406 switch will do & quite possibly other Pugs or even Citreons from the same period.

I sugest removing it / proving it's faulty, (might be mal-adjusted), then you have a sample to compare.

Bridge it and see if brake lights come on,


saves throwing money away on a new switch sometimes,

I discovered that the fuse had in fact gone - it just didn't look like it on the first viewing - I should have just swapped it straight away.

Anyway, job done!
