Roaring Noise From Back after CV boot replaced.

Post by quemlar007 »

Hello,

My 2002 406 has roaring noise coming from the back almost as it driving with the rear windows down. I checked the tyre pressure and all are fine. My wife drove it tonight and I sat in the back. It didn't seem to be coming from any particular side. I noticed I could feel a slight vibration coming up through the back seats. I would describe the sound like as if a carpet or stiff material was rubbing off the road underneath the boot. I checked under the car and nothing is hanging down!

Does anyone have suggestions what could be causing this?
Its due for retesting on 24th March.

Could I do further damage by driving the car with such symptoms above?

Its a bank holiday weekend in Ireland so I can't do anything until Tuesday.

Look forward to some comments.

Q.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

firstly id recomend breaking down each problem to its own thread,

start with the Roaring noise,
best off chock the front wheels jack up the car spin the wheel with the handbrake off, see if you hear a grating noise,
if any then work out whats the problem , sticky caliper, brake shoe or wheel bearing for eg ,also check the tyre

I did that today. Grinding noise when I spin rear wheel. I'm thinking it's a bearing problem. Let you know how I get on. My first post was a bit long winded sorry about that. I'll edit it.
