Spoiler on the 406

Post by FarmerPug »

Hi all
I have been off a while but back again, i did a few things to the 406, i had the spoiler sprayed and fitted onto the bootlid:

It cost £100, that included them painting and installing it to the bootlid. Its been well sprayed. It makes no difference to the driving it just looks good, the boots a bit heavier now but that not a problem. Another problem is i have washed the car (after the picture was taken) its a bit of an addiction

I found red brake calliper paint and it may have come into contact with the callipers I'm not too sure on it, the alloys hide it but i wonder is it really suitable?

I got these new LED strips, i have removed the old shite ones in the boot and replaced them with SMD strips they stick anywhere and brighten up the place like the daytime:

Because they are so thin, i have tried something a bit different, Puddle lights in the wing mirrors:

I havent routed the wires through the doors yet but i have routed them through the mirrors and they still work, mirrors fold and move ok. The passenger side installation wasn't as tidy as i had hoped so i might try again with the shell from a spare mirror i have, the folding mechanism and colour can be swapped easy enough.

Looks good Farmerpug!

Does it have an integrated brake light?

Liking the brake calipers too, tidies up the wheels! And what you've done with the LEDs. Sick of Audis in the rear view lit up like a xmas tree

Get that muck hosed off but! :)

i like the idea of the boot lights as i can never find my stuff at night so where do you get these from as there seams to be lots of diffrent types
now with you useing it on the door mirrors i wonder if you could get orange ones and make them as indicatores?

There is no brake light on the spoiler one less thing to wire up and no real need for a 4th brake light :cheesy:

The link to them lights is:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150739972311? ... 747wt_1141
these really are the best ones on ebay right now, i think the 15cm version uses something around 20mA so the footwell lights are getting replaced with these because i have fried the ldr relay with incandescent bulbs, the relay is rated at 2A max, these bulbs are about 5A its amazing its lasted so long.

Im glad you like the brake callipers, i had them painted black, and the tyre fitter said whats the point if it can't be seen, so some Massey ferguson Paint seems to have done the trick.

As for the muck its all hosed off, no recent pictures, just this black and white one:

Rowan Atkinson. Specifically Mr Bean.

It's from an internet meme, the picture is normally used when trying to imply something overtly sexual, or "... if you know what I mean". Or in Monty Python terms, "nudge nudge wink wink say no more!"

Yes, come to think of it, the Monty Python "Nudge Nudge Wink Wink" skit did talk about photography too

I removed the passenger side mirror and sanded the plastic much thinner this time, and used the heat gun to move the wire out of the way its drying in place now, but sits much tidier on the mirror.
I will inevitably need to run the wires through the door wire pipe, has anyone done that before, is there any particular way to do it.

While at the 406 graveyard, i stumbled across a 406 that had rubber feet on the boot edge, the carpet was also very fresh so i took both and fitted it into my car. WIth the original carpet removed i seen the holes were already drilled for the rubber feet. Although its hard to understand why the other car had them and mine didn't it was a pre multiplex D9 Rapier with no spoiler, peugeot may have been letting the accountants make decisions to save costs :cheesy:

Anyhow, here is the rubber feet:

They don't make the boot any lighter or make it fall any slower, but when it does shut its a lot quieter now it doesn't make the thud noise that it was doing.
