Hi all- Newbie

Post by rustybullets »

Hello everyone.
just joined the forum, hoping to get some good advice and tips when needed.
I've just got hold of a 2001 2.0 hdi 100 exec estate, needed for churning the miles to work, and towing a folding camper on holidays

It seems to be in really good nick, and electrically pretty much everything works fine. and just gone 115k. So really pleased with it, and loving the comfy cruising in it.

Done a few bits to get it up to scratch for myself, full service and all filters, new front droplinks and arb bushes. Replaced missing and tatty badges of the tailgate.
Couple of new bulbs in the multi function display, and I've got a new left headlight washer jet ready for fitting.

Only problem left so far is the tailgate wiper was going off when the car is first started, so I've just unplugged it for now, till I can find out the cause :( (any help appeciated!)
Paint is generally pretty good, but in need of a detail to bring it back properly, so I'll be tackling that slowly, and fitting a set of mudguards when they turn up. :?

I've one quick question though. I want to put the steering wheel back on straight, it's just off centre. (car drives fine though). The Haynes manual says to disconnect the airbag connector from the module in the centre console first. Do I really need to take this out and disconnect it, or should it be ok to remove the wheel airbag just disconnecting the battery and waiting a couple of minutes?

Sorry for the lengthy new post!

Dan.

Hi Dan & welcome aboard. 8)

Sounds like you've got yourself a tidy car there.

As Plod says, wait a bit after disconnecting the battery. Might be worth reading this too: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13431

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks for that, would never have done that to just disconnect the battery!

I did send you an email (to your Paypal email address) ref the mudflaps on Thursday afternoon, but I haven't received a reply yet - I've got 2 different addresses for you (one from Paypal & another from Ebay) & need to know which one to post them to. Was also to let you know that I was going to post Tuesday morning as last time I rushed out to send something before Easter weekend it went walkies during the Bank Holidays.
