I once test drove a 2.2 auto C5. Was a lovely car to drive, but because it had been sat on a used car lot for ages, when he fired it up off the battery all sorts of warning lights
Then he put the price up and spun me some story about it needing a new headlight.

:arrowu: indeed the rattles and error messages keep making me think about 407s, though more because they're the least bad rather than because I like them.
407s do look good really good from the side. The back will do I suppose, but the front is truly awful.
The 2.2 170s I see are all too old, over priced, and rarely come in a colour I like. Did they only make them up to 2008?
A 136/140 is probably good enough -- maybe with the 170 I'm over compensating for having had a 90 for nearly 7 years.

I don't get the upgrading thing, although admittedly I'd dearly like a 5-clock dash.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

What's the difference in insurance between the 407 Coupe and the equivalently-engined 406 Coupe?

That is nuts - smaller-capacity HDi engine produces the same HP as the older, larger-capacity HDi engine does, but because it's smaller they reduce the premiums by £400 ???

Insurers haven't got a f*cking clue, have they?

It's nothing to do with that.
It's along the lines of when someone was making the insurance premiums for the 406 they were drunk and made it so that my 90bhp 406 is twice as much to insure as my 110bhp Focus.

Well your 90 HP 406 had a 2.0 litre engine and your 110 HP Focus had a 1.6 litre engine, so of course the 406 was a flame-spitting rally car and the Focus was a quiet underpowered city car. Right? Bloody insurers.

And a 2009 Citreon C5 Exclusive 2.0 HDi is £1,400 to insure

I wonder how the hell they work that out. I suspect a set of dice is part of the equation. Maybe these guys are all big fans of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons? Roll for damage...

Bear in mind that you're looking at its good side... the front isn't so pretty!

I always liked the boot lid design on the 407 Coupe; it kinda reminds me a bit of the Ferrari 456:

If they could have blended the C-pillars smoothly into the body on the 407 (like they do on the 406 Coupe) and had a nicer front bumper, then it would be an absolute stunner.
