Re: My god I've bought a barge!
Figure I may as well update this
The missus passed her test!
* Cambelt change went well apart from the threaded sump plug. Got that fixed though.
* Need another bulb for the MFD
* Need to fit the ashtray bulb
* Need to change the clutch
* Need to get the AC leak-tested and hopefully gassed (knowing my luck it won't be that simple...)
* Need to figure out how to repair the heated rear screen - or get a replacement since the bottom few rows don't work
Cruise control can wait until I've got time (we've decided to push our honeymoon to Germany back a year)
* Need a replacement keyfob cover - The problem with the locking was actually down to the wrong battery being fitted
but the button rubber is cracked and it turns out my old D8 ones (same shape) don't fit!
* Engine cover has been bought, but mounts need acquiring (going to sort the vibration problem first!)
* MAF was replaced with an ebay part, which has made the engine slightly (but noticeably) less lethargic, but it's the wrong part and is meant to be held in place with a jubilee clip, whereas the hdi90 wants its MAF screwed into the airbox. I currently have it just wedged in there
* Need to retro-fit a dimming mirror
* Need to replace an exhaust mounting or two - damn thing really rattles around when the car's juddering
* (NEW) Need to figure out why the engine is vibrating so much. It's REALLY moving about a lot - when it's running there's a few parts which are just a blur to look at
Bottom mount perhaps?
* (NEW) Got to hit things until the dashboard noises (door open beeps, indicator clicks) come back. It's the instrument cluster which deals with these on D9s isn't it?
* (NEW) Got to try disconnecting the clutch pedal switch
* (NEW) Need to source some clips or screws or whatever is needed to hold the driver's door card on

Costs next to nothing, no need to touch the HP pipe work.
Worth unplugging the injectors in turn to prove a point, (but I'd do it with the engine stopped/ignition off). You'll get an error message etc straight away, but you can obviously clear the faults yourself. The absence of fault codes you have at the moment only proves you have continuity through the solenoid coils......

Re: My god I've bought a barge!
Hmm thinking about it - severe lack of power, evil vibration at idle, utterly demonic vibration under load below 1500rpm - could well be a completely dead injector.
I'll do an unplugging test when I get a chance, but I'd have hoped (seems from others' experiences it's not the case...) the ECU would be able to report on such a thing by monitoring the return voltage on the injectors - ie. if it takes 80V to get the injector to open up, then an amount of voltage will be generated when it closes... unless there's protection circuit in the injectors themselves...

Re: My god I've bought a barge!
No, it won't do that, but it will tell you how much it's having to adjust the fuel flow to each injector as it attempts to 'iron out' the differences between them, (it uses the crank & cam sensors to work out how much the engine 'accellerates' in response to each power stroke).

Re: My god I've bought a barge!
All 4 injectors are doing something... and today I learned that unplugging them causes an antipollution fault which persists after you reset the ecu... Bah. Going to have to get the lappy plugged into it...

Re: My god I've bought a barge!
The anti-pollution fault should automatically clear after a certain number of journeys where the fault does not occur again. So if you just use the car normally for a few days (and don't touch the injectors!), the light should automatically disappear.
