Gearknobs

Post by FarmerPug »

The leather has now completely peeled off my gearknob, and the place i got the parts from just doesn't have a car with the same gearstick (i think its the ML5 gearbox that has the reverse up beside 1st) is the gearstick in the 407 the same with the exception the 6th gear which could be changed by taking off the cap?

Did your 407 have a 6 speed box?
I also think the 407s have a chrome handle that you pull up to get into reverse as opposed to the black plastic of the 406.
Servicebox has about 6 different choices of gearknob for the 406 :?

at the moment my gearknob i have taken it off, the flaky leather got irritating so i pulled it all off and wrapped insulation tape round it. Green tape, it looks real classy :cheesy: especially with the random creased effect.
The problem with a normal gearknob out of other 406s is they don't have the same reverse position or the same top cap, the only 406s that have the same gearstick as mine seem to be the SE ones and they are as rare as hens teeth for breaking. Thats why I'm thinking of the 407 because apparently more of them got the same gearstick as my 406 only with 6 gears as opposed to 5

My old 52' plate 110 Rapier had the reverse next to first the same as my 53' exec,i know the 90's don't.I would have thought any late 110 would have the right gearknob.

The problem is all the breakers on ebay for 406s have no gear knobs (or more likely can't be bothered to go and get one because its not big enough) there isn't very many 02-04 cars breaking on ebay, the SE's hardly ever get broken.

My Rapier had a leather gearknob with and alloy top,is there no Rapiers being broken.i managed to get a brand new one of ebay a while back for £15,i then swapped it for the one in my exec as it was a bit tatty.I just keep an eye out on ebay as one's bound to turn up.

i asked the 406 breaker i went to he said his gearstick came out of a 407 it was a year old one and had leather seats, must be the 407 executives. Though after looking on auto trader i didn't see any, but this 406 S has the chromed lever on the gearstick

That's the same as the one I had in my old saloon - with reverse behind 5th.

It was all tatty also, so I fitted a replacement that I got from Blue406; it was a Coupe gearknob from a pre-mux Coupe that had the same gearbox layout as my saloon did.

That's the same as the one I have in my Coupe - with the lift-select reverse.
