Starting to feel silly in work now...

Post by Bailes1992 »

I've never really been an active person, whenever I do anything physically challenging I feel like crap for about an hour or two afterwards. I usually get throbbing headaches, my vision pulses when I stare, I get aches and pains down my arms, my kneck, my legs etc etc.
Some days when I first started work I had to pull over on my way home from work because my legs are shaking, I have a headache and cannot concerntrate.

I thought this was because I was unfit but 6 months In although I have gotten used to it, I am no better.

Today I tried to pick up 4 lengths on trunking on my shoulder, something most people do without issue and straight away I had massive pains up my neck and a throbbing headache for about 2 hours afterward.

Everything I do I seem to struggle, I never find anything easy.

A few days I've considered just handing my notice in because I'm clearly not able to cope with this sort of work.

It's embaressing having to just say "I can't do it".

What do I do now? Totally at a dead end. :|

That diesn't sound right, ok the job might be beyond your physical abilities but the headaches, vision problems etc. sound like something a bit more than that - go talk to your GP I reckon.

Sam,
if you feel ill at work, go straight to the organ grinder and tell them,
they will most probs tell you to go out side and sit down, get some fresh air,

its the duty of your employer to look out for the employee, Dont feel bad about it just tell them,

Told my foreman today I had a headache and he said (Although it was in jest) "Wait till you get back on a propper site"... Everyone seems to think your just moaning for the sake of it.

I think I'm going to have to go to the doctors, your right.
But what if they say I'm stuck on light dutys? How good an apprentice electrician who can only screw a socket on.

Few weeks ago I run about 20yds up to some mates in college and I had to sit down to 10 mins cause my head was pulsing. :|

I would get the head pulsing from time to time, i think drinking plenty of water helps keep it away, the pulsing can be a reaction to being dehydrated.

I take 4x 500ml bottles of water/squash to work a day. I usually drink these.

Get to the GP,a lad of your age should not get tired so easily and even if you were absolutely knackered from hard work you shouldn't be suffering those sort of symptoms from it.

Off to the docs with you ask him to check your neck vertebrae ,most of the symptoms you are describing I suffered with for years then was diagnosed with cervical nerve damage to me and you thats a pain in the neck its surprising what a trapped nerve in your neck can cause ,if you suffer dizziness with it dont be going up any ladders.PS the headaches could be Migraine .

Constructions sites are very unforgiving when it comes to being ill, I work in construction (albeit office based) and being ill on site is completely ignored - everyone is engaged in getting the job done before it looses even more money and moving onto the next one, there's no time to be ill

We had a lad working for us who, one day, couldn't stop being sick at work.....everyone took the piss saying it was his missus' cooking or a dodgy pint last night etc..............it was Lymphatic Cancer.

Don't worry Bailes, I'm sure there's a simple explanation, it may well be an early sign of Diabetes but this is manageable and shouldn't affect your daily life it is very common and nothing to be ashamed of either.

I'd get to the quacks and tell them everything you can and everything that bothers you.

Let us know how you get on.

Sam ... doctor ... go now. You're only a year older than my step-son, there's no way in hell (unless you're 30 stone in weight) that someone your age should be experiencing these symptoms as a result of even moderate physical exercise or manual labour.

There's any number of issues this could potentially be, but the most important part of any treatment is an early diagnosis - the longer any kind of ailment continues untreated, the greater the severity of the damage it could potentially do to your body and the less treatable that can become.

Health problems aside, if you are issued a sick note from your doctor, your work will understand, whereas just hanging around the yard being unable to take on the work they're giving you because you say you feel ill isn't going to help your case.

Do you reckon I would be ok to go to after hours down the hospital for this?
Or should I get a day off and go to my surgery?
