BMW theft problem

Post by Welly »

I know we joke and tease about BMW drivers etc but this is really bad, and strange, the Piston Heads thread is full of people signing-in to say "my car's been stolen last night".......

It is terrible, but I have to say that this is what happens when you drive a car that chav lowlife desire.

Impreza owners had the same issue a few years back - the insurance for them went sky high as a result.

Someone got into the 406 once and stole a sat nav (yes silly me for leaving it in the glovebox). Not sure if they got the frequency by waiting til I opened it, or whether I didnt unlock it.
Luckily the other halfs car was parked across the drive so they couldn't steal it.

I was thinking earlier: "what's so bad about a key, why all this electronic bollocks".

And a couple of weeks ago in the car park, two of us had pressed to unlock at the same time and neither car had unlocked -- presumably because of interference. I was a bit worried because this is unusual, but the other car was a 7-series and the owner was very worried indeed -- until we worked out what had happened.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Its all bull shite,

it dosent matter what car it is, if they want it theyl have it away,
My brother n laws car got nicked from outside a football ground that had top notch imobilisers on,
they just took it away, towing dolley no doubt,

An iwonder,of how many of the bmws in the links where unrecorded right offs to begin with,
easily done, buy one leave it a bit and say its been nicked, big scam,

there not easy to steal, if they where why wouid the scum bags be burgling houses for the keys or ragging a women out of drivers seats,

I've done this at home on my drive - pressed both fobs for mine and her-indoors' car at the same time and neither of them budged :|

I agree with Omega's first tip If only the majority of the population paid heed. (though I tried the 2nd tip and got fed up with the sensors, mounts and rust).

great tips there omega :cheesy:
tip number 2 seems to be a great one, and you can use your 406 in the snow.

Also with the broken COM2000 you have the exact opposite in terms of indication - too much instead of none! Even when you don't want to turn left, it'll insist!

Sounds like old Vauxhalls! I remember a friend of mine had a MK2 Astravan and his key would unlock other Astra's of the same age. When he locked his keys inside he used a coat hanger to unlock the door!
