Cold Calls/recorded messages

Post by leestudd30 »

I work on a switchboard and jesus, am getting so many lately! Seems to be PPI nearly all the time, closely followed by pensions and now grants for home insulation!

It has gotten to the point on the home phone where if it is a number I don't recognise, I pick up the phone but don't say anything.

If it is a genuine call, the other side will say "hello?", if it is nonsense it can sit and run up their phone bill.

At home, every single day, I get at least 3 cold-calls. Mostly about PPI, but then there's the one about the new Government scheme which can write off up to 80% of my debts, and then there's the one where they just want to ask you a few questions, and then there's BT asking you to come back to them.

Then there's the silent ones, where a call-centre's automated dialer has dialed you, but all their agents are busy on other calls.

All I want to know is, who the f*ck actually speaks to these people and buys their products/services over the phone? If nobody was doing that, then their whole industry would be pointless, but there are droves of people employed all over the UK and abroad who are being paid to try and sell you sh*t over the phone - the cold-calling industry must be making money hand-over-fist or whoever employs these people would have gone out of business aeons ago.

You don't get the ones about a "recent accident" which you may be entitled to compensation for? I must be a special case then.

I have the answer........

Download Form C01 and fax it to the number shown. This removes you from the electoral register listing (which I believe gets sold off by 192.com) held by sales companies.

I do this once a year and I can tell you with absolute certainty I get NO sales calls at my hone whatsover 8)

http://statics.192.com/rel-3.25/downloads/C01.pdf

You can also register with the TPS shown at the bottom of the form to be doubly sure.

>Can I speak to the Owner of the Business please?

No, can I help?

>Are you the Owner?

No, but I look after all the Administration for the company and you won't get any further than me - what do you want?

>It's about your Mobile phone contract.

Not interested, we've got one, I know this.

>But you're not the owner, how do you know this?

Welly and Puggy, had both of those! When I get the owner of the business calls, I don't even listen anymore, just put the phone straight down!

I had a great one at work once

Her: "Hi, I'm from blahblah Double Glazing, do you want to hear all about our current special offer in your area?"

Me: "Yes! I'd be delighted to!"

Her: <much waffling about thermally-efficient glass, reduction in heating bills, massive savings, 50% discounts, lifetime guarantee, PVC surrounds, offer on blinds, etc etc etc>

Me: "That sounds wonderful. Can you give me a quote?"

Her: "Certainly sir, how many windows do you have in your property?"

Me: "About 200 - this is a warehouse."

Her: ... <click>
