Do I need an MOT (certificate to tax my car)?
Guys, my 405 needs to taxed by the end of the month. The tax book just came through along with a reminder that it needs to be taxed. I have everything bar an MOT certificate. It's MOT'd until October but I have no certificate, only the disc in the window. Can I go into my post office and tax my car without it? Have just found out that us folk in NI can't do it online, which was my original plan

You can tax your car online, withought producing an mot, aslong as the mot is in date,
some post offices ask for the Mot some dont,
idont seen Why they ask for them, once they swipe the log book V5. everything shouid come up on there screen

You can't do it online in Northern Ireland lozz. I don't see why they need them either, should all be on computer but when I google it, so many people have had bother with the PO and have had to get duplicates. I suppose I can only try it and see, and if they don't then I'll go get a duplicate.lozz wrote:You can tax your car online, withought producing an mot, aslong as the mot is in date,

ive been asked for the Mot afew times,
some post offices dont even look at the Mot Try taxing it at a post office where they know your face,
My car tax runs out soon, and ive not got the new v5 back yet, and the one igot with the car is 10yrs old, im hoping ican tax it with the old style log book

In NI you can tax your car as the MOTs are all on their DB.
However you can't do it at the post office as they need the MOT certificate (though you might get away with the MOT disc), you need to go to a tax office or you can phone them up with the tax reminder form details - the number is 028 7034 1514. They don't advertise it as I don't think they have the staff, it's more for fleet renewals etc.
Good luck!

I've re-read your first post, try the Post Office with your MOT disc. I could've sworn I've seen people taxing with the disc before, and if all the PO need is proof of MOT, surely this constitutes that and it has your numberplate and expiry.
Good luck at county hall anyhow! Shouldn't be too busy as it's not yet the end or start of the month.
