I've seen a few 508s in the wild now, and I have to say that in the flesh they really are a good looking car. The proportions are right and the detailing is spot on. A lot more interesting than the generic german boxes.

I'd say Peugeot are making a comeback to the '05-'06 era, especially if the 208 is good motor.

Bring on the 508 Coupe, as they should have a 2-door grand tourer in their fleet again. Pininfarina could be asked to design it (though this is sadly unlikely), but Pininfarina don't manufacture cars any more, so it'd probably be built in France and China with the rest of the 508 fleet.

They are building a 4x4 off-road-ish 508, the 508 RXH, and they have a HYbrid4 version of the normal 508 saloon coming too (front wheels powered by diesel, rear wheels powered by electric motors).

What'd be nice would be a Pininfarina-designed, Peugeot-built 508 Coupe, with a 4WD option using the HYbrid4 system. And hire electricians who know how to solder please.

I had a read of the handbook on ServiceBox.
To get that level of specification on a German car you'd be adding £10k in extras.

I'm seriously thinking of running the 406 for another 3 or 4 years then looking for a 508 HDi 160.

interior looks very vauxhall looking, my mates got a brandnew astra, inside looks very simalar to them,

Probably directly proportional to the time that they hold their build quality.

Are all the 2.0 auto then? Everything seems to be going that way now. Noticed that most of the C4 Picassos with larger diesel engines have a semi-auto. Is this the solution to all the clutch/DMF issues that modern diesels have?

New cars took another knock in my opinion last week. Had a 11 plate Golf Bluemotion last week to go to Northampton. The stop/start thing weirded me out a bit. I thought it would wear out the starter motor, but it doesn't seem to start in the same way as when you initially fire it up - it's almost like a bump-start. Was actually fairly impressed for a while - really tall 5 speed box resulted in 55mpg showing on the display. Then I went home & saw that VW claim 60mpg around town. Where on earth do they get these figures from?

The car makers mpg figures are not worth the paper there wrote on,
idont think theres many cars out there that will get 50mpg round town, not family sized cars anyway,
my dad rekons hes new car does 80mpg, ford eco boost or what ever it is,

Well indeed: it has to be a manual 2.0 (or 2.2 ).

I notice that the the earliest 508s have 2.0 140s whereas they're now 2.0 160s.

Yes, you're right. You can now get a 2.0 HDi 163 6-speed manual in 'Allure' trim level, (which seems to be one down from top-of-the-range GT). The GT comes with a real engine, (2.2 HDi 200), but not unfortunately with a gearbox.

I see they also have 'help yourself' keyless ignition too.

So well done, Peugeot, even when you make something less than totally hideous, you find a way of ensuring no one would actually want one.

VW have some of the laziest designers in the industry.

Just slap new lights on the old model.

And people still buy them purely because of the german badge

I'm not sure if they'll do a 508 coupe. It would be great, especially if it looked like the 504 coupe concept. But I think they have the RCZ for the coupe market.

I see a lot of Laguna coupes about. They've stopped selling them but they look stunning, like an Aston Martin.

My words to the wife after looking at a 508 on ebay... nice looking car but now even Peugeot have gone keyless and handbrakeless ffs.

I spoke to someone with a Renault yesterday his card wont open/lock doors it's a pig to start and it's gonna cost him over £200 to replace... He also said he tried someone elses card on his car and it worked... Thats not right surely?

The handbrakeless cars are not aproblem.
as soon as you go to set off it releases its self,

as for the renault key card problems, its not the card,
its the reader that fails, aplastic peg breaks off inside, easy fix with some superglue

I hate those keyless entry things.

Here's the thing: to what extent does all the electronics make second hand ownership infeasible? The electronics are definitely the weakest point on the D9s -- I'm sure mine will end up a scrapper because of electronics and not because of anything mechanical.
It will be interesting to see how 407s fare with age.
