Re: Parts,
GSF in Belfast were ignorant sods.
I found EuroCarParts much more helpful to deal with.
But then they're franchises so in another city it could be the other way round.

Re: Parts,
Eurocarparts does the same job as GSF, but cheaper & more efficiently. Wouldn't touch Ebay for anything mechanical. Been stung on brake discs & a clutch before now.lozz wrote:Ive been looking for parts,

I wouldn't touch no-name junk from ebay. Too many people reselling the cheapest low quality knock-off stuff they can get their hands on. Brembo pads for £20 you say? Over 10 sets in stock at that price you say? Pull the other one!Wouldn't touch Ebay for anything mechanical. Been stung on brake discs & a clutch before now.
However brand new OEM parts can be bought there cheaply and reliably from the occasional non-business seller - usually someone who never got around to fitting it before trashing their car

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Parts,
I've used nothing but ebay so far for the 405, the one thing that I've learnt through 74 transactions is that you should do your homework on the different shops when buying. Never ever go for the 'bargain!!!'! part as it'll generally be terrible and have to be replaced in no time costing you more than the genuine item

Re: Parts,
You can't beat getting home to find a note that they tried to deliver when you were at work, the sorting office is only open til 5.30pm, when you turn up the next morning the queue is huge, and it turns out its back in the van to attempt redelivery.mjb wrote: May be cheaper from a breaker's yard, but you can't beat getting home from work to find a parcel waiting for you
I'm really tempted to start a delivery company that offers off-peak deliveries. Bit more expensive, shift pay for the drivers, but whats the logic in delivering stuff 9-5 when most peoples at work?

Re: Parts,
Ive never been to GSF thats the first I've heard of a belfast branch. Although Dungannon is close to here, and there is a europarts (not the same as the one on the internet) and there is also a place called motor and commercial less than a mile up the road. If one doesn't have the part the other does.
Ebay is ok if its a really hard to find part such as a sat nav display but in most cases ebay breakers are looking too much for their parts.
About the delivery, although I'm usually near the house i can be up the field at any time and usually thats when the post man comes, the red slips are a nuisance, i just have a note on the door "any parcels in coal bunker round the back please" most companies do it except for yodel.

Re: Parts,
Yodel. Don't get me started. They'll either leave a note and run back to their van even if you are in (because your parcel isn't *in* the van!), throw it over your 6 foot fence or, in one case, they just left a parcel on the doorstep (and we live on a busy corner)FarmerPug wrote:Ive never been to GSF thats the first I've heard of a belfast branch. GSF are/were up Boucher round by bennys round the back of the boots depot.
Found them a bit ignorant.
Found Eurocarparts better, they're up the other side of boucher Apollo road up opposite the train yard.

Re: Parts,
It certainly covers Northern Ireland, as the local Mace shop has it and the other half had to send stuff back to teh shops and used it. Open til 9pm. I've not tried it for ebay mind, I think you have to deliver to the door with ebay. Free listing weekend so I might get some computer bits on.omega wrote:sirwiggum wrote:You can't beat getting home to find a note that they tried to deliver when you were at work, the sorting office is only open til 5.30pm, when you turn up the next morning the queue is huge, and it turns out its back in the van to attempt redelivery.mjb wrote: May be cheaper from a breaker's yard, but you can't beat getting home from work to find a parcel waiting for you
