406 estate wanted
I have just towed my mate in in his Ford Galaxy 2.0 petrol, something has come adrift in the top end and it's a shed so not worth mending,he's after a cheap car to replace it and i suggested a 406 estate as he's a builder/handyman and needs a bit of space. As long as its got a good bit of test the condition is not really that important.Anything out there for under a grand? Oxon/Bucks area if poss.

We have a good 1.9 HDi Rapier Estate for sale in a few weeks; have to go back to NZ. Used to be owned by Lofty. In great condition; a bit good for a tradies van but thats life. New exhaust, regular maintenance, never had a problem with it. Photos available. Got 58 mpg on a long run once.

Cheers for the reply but he got a loan and bought an Audi A4 estate in the end.

Re: 406 estate wanted
I bought a 2.0HDI 110BHP estate via ebay last week. On at a dealers for £999. Spotted some issues (as I know or have had virtually every single one over the years) & drove it home that day for £850. MFD failing, usual indicator stalk & some other snags. Simply replaced the display from my supposedly dead 2.2, found the wrong indicator part I'd bought for it (but was right for the 2.0) etc. Lovely spec'd interior (leather, heated, memory positions) plus working aircon (what?!) plus electric sunroof, plus 1/2 tank of fuel plus 4 brand new tyres.
So they are out there & the pick of all the standard 406s is the 2.0HDI 110. The 90BHP is awful, & the 2.2 136 has so many issues as standard that it's not true. Mind you-if you're prepared to put some time & effort into it then the 2.2 is the real kiddie that can return almost as good as economy as the 110, but can also go troubling the 3.0 V6s, but it needs a fair bit of modding to get it so. Nothing tricky or that expensive though but it'll take a good week or so to do your homework into what's involved & you'll need some 'specialist' help to reprogramme the fuel map. All the info is out there & I know that some of the pioneers on this are on here, although I've learnt all this via the coupe club.
