What do you call this part?

Post by VespaSkin »

Hiya

Replacing the driver side oil seal in the gearbox where the driveshaft goes in, prized old one out and buggered the metal holder jobby - now trying to get a replacement but buggered if I know what it is (so I can't search for it) the metal cup thing the seal sits in, might have to try and bodge it....

Any info greatly appreciated

It would help if you said which gearbox you have, (or which engine, as HDi 90's & 110's have different 'boxes).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Any good?

(Could be an ML5C or ML5T 'box, but if it's no. 1, it's the same for either):

Can't see the bit - how best to describe it - when you jemmy out the seal with the white fringe it sits inside a metal housing with a lip running inside that the seal groove on back sits on and it has a larger diameter flat lip and you put the seal into the housing and the housing into the appeture where the driveshaft will go into through the seal... if that makes any sense

Apparently I have been sold an 'old' seal damn you ebay

Photo's 68 & 69 is what I'm on about - the metal housing... on the seal with the fringe on it

Doesn't look like it's available separately - I think it's part of the 'Housing cap' assembly, item 1 on the Service Box screen dump??
