Tempted by another Xantia. Especially as it does 50+mph... :cheesy: Wonder if they'd swap a Honda?

I thought the xantia was lighter, the 406 is a more solid feeling car than a xantia, and i think there is no extra weight with the hydropneumatic suspension.
As for the old 800 a fantastic looking car, they don't make sharp styled fastbacks like that anymore and it's a shame. The only thing about the old fastbacks/pre facelift 800s was they had the bad reputation for unreliability and silly things like the discolouring dash the face lifted 800 sounds like a much more useable every day car.

My Mum loved the 800 fastback ever since they first hit the market. When my old 2.8i Granada was past it's prime, they px'd it against a British Racing Green 820si. She loved it so much that when that was finished she bought another one in the same spec & colour. Was a fantastic car for rear seat passengers. Mum used to take my Grandad back & forth to hospital in it & we discovered that nothing else could match the rear door opening for easy access.

That's just how everybody sells diesels these days. Personally I think the town fuel consumption is where the bigger savings are. On a run my old 406 used to get late 40s MPG, while my old 1.8 Mondeo used to get 40. On my local trips (mostly cold starts) the 406 was hitting 35, while the Mondeo only hit 25MPG.

The equivalent Citroens are usually better on fuel & slightly quicker than their Peugeot counterparts. Discovered that when looking at C5s.

Lets see:

- Too big for a normal parking space - Check
- Big enough to live in - Check
- Bit of a tacky interior - Check
- Beloved of a certain community - Check

Yep its a Q5

Now here's a ting..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-03-PEUGE ... 35bc82e14e
Was watching this last week - it made £2272, but somehow is instantly back on the market.

It's the right age/mileage for me, just about 6 months too soon as I intend to run mine a bit longer. Also feels 'wrong' looking at one so similar to mine.

What do you think this is really worth?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I'm with Plod on that - he did the same with the 04 plate Octavia he had. Reckon there's a bit of family & friends bidding going on with him. Car looks ok though. May feel a bit gloomy getting into the black leather after your cream interior. I looked at a white Y plate on Saturday (£2700) that was supposed to be showroom condition, yet had dints in every door & a very poorly painted front bumper. Managed to get first dibs on it by phoning shortly after it appeared on Autotrader. Seller told me that he'd had 3 phone calls that morning (including one who claimed to be the guy that phoned the night before), but the car is still advertised now. In all fairness though, mechanically it was pretty good. No FAP warnings anywhere & went pretty well. Comm2000 was a bit wobbly.

If you want another 2.2 406, I reckon it'll take a lot of patience (& probably circa £2.5k for a really nice one now).

Yes, I'd agree with you on all of your comments. £2.5k 'feels' like too much, considering I paid £3250 for this one in Oct 08, when it was exactly 6 years old / 103k miles. I'm looking to swap to a lower mileage example in 6 months time or thereabouts, but don't want to pay through the nose for the priviledge.

My 'sanity check' alternative - a 2.2 407, still looks like £4.5K ish, (but then it would need some armrests)!
