Hi all as anyone got Bt infinity?

is it anygood?
just waiting on the chap to come and fit phone line etc, ive had alook on the Box theyve sent and theres no phone line connection
Hows it work do they fit a adsl type box and run it through that?
iexpected it running off phone line, wished id never botherd now and gone back on to cable seems to be alot less hastle and expense,
theyre charging me over 130quid just to fit a phone line,

Scratch that,

it looks like they just use adiffernt style connector box, 1 for ADSL and the other odinary phone socket,
ijust hope they provide along lead or its going to be fun

They give you a standalone modem that connects to the ADSL socket on the wall; this has an ethernet outlet that connects to the router. You don't use an ADSL router, you need a cable type which does PPPoE authentication.
The speed is superb, I set it up for one of my customers and they get nearly the full 40Meg downstream speed!

ive paid for a new line,
chap comes looks for connection box, he found one inever knew was there,
he then went to back of the house ripped the phone line down threw it over the roof, spent and hour drilling through the wall with bent drill bit ffs isaid did you get that from the quid shop,? Top of the range makita drill and youve not decent drill bit ffs Monkeys do abetter job,

he then spent half hour on his mobile phone Moaning to his mate about ajob he was on yesterday He couidnt do because hes no rods, wtf are rods
anyways he then said oh Bt infinity we dont install that another chap comes out Rips the box out ive just put in and upgrades it to one with a ADsL slot on

ididnt know bt needed fishing rods thats a new one on me

I'm still waiting for Plusnet fibre optic to be available in my area. Apparently they just need to install a new socket in the flat, I was expecting something to be connected to the outside wall which could have been difficult with it being a rented property.

ive heard plus-net is pretty good, but they bump the price up,
starts off cheap and they put it up or something, idont know if thats true tho,

ive not had one isp yet ask me if my house is owned or rented, no mention of asking for permisions from landlord,
always best to ask tho to stay in the boundaries of tenacy agreement, ithink,

also heard tiscali broadband and tv service is good, iwill be looking into this and pulling the plug on BT if ican

I have PlusNet, their customer service is way better than BT or Virgin Medias.

They don't really care if your house is owned or rented, they presume that you have the permission. We had to get permission to put a sky dish up.

Well with my plusnett, they are now cheaper than when I started and the speed is way better.

My plusnet was free for 6 months and £6.49 a month after.
I might upgrade my package mind, I find a couple of GB limit isn't a lot by the time you download updates to xbox games, stream some video on iplayer, grab the latest linux distro iso or 2, and not even talking about torrents!

They came back out today fitted the Broadband conector,
its ok, not as good as iexpected, kids are hammerin the xbox upstairs everything downstairs goes slow,
its not what it seems on tv anyway, Virgin broadband is lot better,

I keep reading about random outages on the Virgin Media network, and no-one in their customer support has a clue.

1MB after moving house in the sticks. Ah well. Might look into infinity myself. New phone line needed for it?
