Re: Been summond to a Halfords Autocenter...
It is electrical.
Totally conindicence that it was cooling down on overun/downhill.
Today 3 times it was registering stone cold on the motorway with cruise control on at 70mph.
Cruise control cut out, the car hicupped and the temp gauge went right down. The car also seems very lathargic when this happens too.
It also done it when cruise control was off and it just hiccuped and the temp gauge fell to minimum and registered about 70°c for the rest of the way home. Yet when i turned the ignition off and back on again it registered 90°c. I think the temp sensor might have gone.
I plugged it in and got DTC 01 C40168.
It seems like a ford specific code and nobody has a clue what it means?
We'll see what halfrauds autoceter say tommorow.

I mind the electrics on my Ford.
At least 1/2 of them didn't work. The whole right hand side.
Never buy ford.

I would think it's just a sensor, but I need to find out what that code means.
If Halfords don't work it out tommorow then I will insist CarShop pay for it to go to a dealer.

Re: Been summond to a Halfords Autocenter...
Took it down today and they were abit perplexed as there was no codes comming up on the computer.
They found a little missfire about 1200rpm, as I never drive that low in the revs (Anything less than 1500rpm really nackered engines up when the engine has load on it) I never noticed it.
It's booked back in for the day on Friday to have more diagnostic work done on both problems.
I have told emailed carshop the following...
Hi,
I bought a 2008 Ford Mondeo 1.8TDCi from your Cardiff based showroom on the 29th May.
I've had the car two weeks and have a problem with the tempreture gauge.
I took it in to Halfords Autocentre in Swansea today where they seemed to also find a missfire around 1500rpm.
They seemed to do nothing but rely on what the computer says and seem to totally give up after it showed no fault codes.
I have had to book it in on Friday at 8.30am which now means I have to have yet more time off work for more diagnostics to be completed on the car.
I am going to give Halfords one chance to fix the issues before I insist that it goes into a Ford dealer to be sorted at your cost as I feel Halfords have no clue.
I may even consider rejecting the car for a full refund if it's going to be more trouble than it's worth.
I also want to be assured that even if the warrenty runs out and neither of these faults are fixed by then that they will still be covered by your warrenty and fixed at your cost?
Thanks, Sam.
To be honest I'm smitten with the car, I just want to make sure I'm not going to have to pay to put it right.
Found a thread online with someone with my 1.8 engine with exactley the same engine and was told (By Ford) that it's a charecteristic of the engine

We'll see what halfrauds autoceter say tommorow.
C40168 refers to an automatic transmission fault.

If I am not getting anywhere sorting out either fault by the end of July I will reject it under the grounds it's not fit for purpose.

Re: Been summond to a Halfords Autocenter...
Very strange.
Seems quite a few people have had this issue with the 1.8 though.
Also a few people have had this missfire issue.
One guy over on talk ford had his quite serious to the extent that 6th gear was totally unusable under 80mph.
He replaced a duff injector and it sorted it. Seems I may have some new injectors under warrentey.
To be honest I never even noticed this fault today, glad it's getting sorted but feel they have completley gone off the mark with my temp gauge and are now more interested in the missfire.

That's all I could find too (on a German website) so I presumed it must be ballcocks. Something about about TCM/PCM mismatch? Maybe it's talking about a clutch switch

I know it's a bit different but my mate bought a 57 plate Audi 2.0d A4 170 and brought it round to show me but when i looked over it that had a slight misfire and i told him to take it back to the garage that sold it to him, long story short,it had to have a complete set of injectors and loom, cost just under £4k !Bailes1992 wrote:Very strange.

Re: Been summond to a Halfords Autocenter...
The only time you can feel the missfire is if you hold the revs at 1400rpm in neutral. But now I know it's there it's annoying megrasmere59 wrote:I know it's a bit different but my mate bought a 57 plate Audi 2.0d A4 170 and brought it round to show me but when i looked over it that had a slight misfire and i told him to take it back to the garage that sold it to him, long story short,it had to have a complete set of injectors and loom, cost just under £4k !Bailes1992 wrote:Very strange.

Injectors for the 1.8's are cheap enough and don't have to be coded to the car either like allot of fords. You can change the lot for £500. Which is cheap compared to some cars.
