Laptop help please.
This morning my son used my laptop with a very low battery, he went to work and left it switched on without the charger connected.
When I got up this morning I tried to switch it on, but it wouldn't, it was completely dead.
I plugged in the charger, but the charger indicator light is not lit on the laptop, it is lit on the charger.
I've left it with the charger on for nearly 2 hours, but it's still dead.
I've tried taking out the battery and connecting charger....nothing.
Maybe the charger is faulty, but it hasn't been used since yesterday and all was well.
Any ideas guys?

Re: Laptop help please.
What type of laptop is it, how old?
What state was the battery in? Would it hold charge or was it nearly dead needing ran constantly off the mains?
Does the charger socket on the laptop feel loose when you plug the cable in?

My wife reminded me that we have a month of warranty left on it so it's going in to be repaired, just need to find the receipt first
It's an Acer 5334.
It was perfectly fine yesterday and worked fine this morning, but my son forgot to plug the chjarger in and the battery died, now it won't work at all.

I was going to say if the battery is dead flat the charger won't see it even if it's plugged in. Hope you find the receipt!!

Found the receipt, but unfortunately it's just out of warranty
However, I fixed the laptop
Removed battery, plugged charger in, pressed on switch whilst plugging battery in and tapped battery as I fitted it, machine switched on and started charging
Now showing 20% charged and charging

Trust it as far as you can spit it. It's great you got the machine going, but I wouldn't put any faith in that battery!jasper5 wrote:Now showing 20% charged and charging![]()
The Wifely Person's laptop battery is screwed. Sometimes it says "Charging" and gives a very optimistic percentage - but then when you disconnect it from the mains, it goes off almost immediately. Replacement battery will fix it.
Disconnect it from the mains once the battery says it's fully charged, and use it as normal - but set a timer going on your watch/phone. Stop the timer when the laptop kicks it. Let us know how it gets on

Re: Laptop help please.
Laptop batteries don't last beyond a couple of years.
I count myself lucky that my netbook still holds an hours charge.
And they want us driving cars using this technology.

I've had this laptop for a few years now possibly 5 and it's always on charge and has been since i about a month after getting it, not sure about other warranties but mine didn't cover the battery.. If i un plugged it now i'd get 5 minutes maximum but it says 100% what a load of crap like Highlander says pinch of salt.

Re: Laptop help please.
I think my charger is playing up or at least the charging system is, I have to wiggle the lead now to get the battery to charge or to get power from the charger.
I'll take it to my local shop that repairs laptops, my neighbour is a mate of his so I should get it fixed ok.

Sounds like the solder points need resoldered on the charging mount.jasper5 wrote:I think my charger is playing up or at least the charging system is, I have to wiggle the lead now to get the battery to charge or to get power from the charger.

Should be straightforward fix if you can get at the motherboard.

Check the lead on the charger first, before you go pulling the laptop to bits - it could also be one of the wires is broken where it goes go into the plug.
