MOT Today

Post by gumby6371 »

Took the old girl in this afternoon to see what needed doing ready for the weekend of spanner turning and;

NSR near legal limit (advisory)

Number plate light not working (told to fix it but didn't go on sheet)

PASS!!!!!

I was amazed, especially given the car drifts/understeers on right hand bends, I even asked him to double check the track rods and associated bits, no play at all :cheesy:

The best bit was watching him try and get a reading for the smoke test, the veg is too clean to register

My mate is taking it in for tracking as he only pays £15 trade which will hopefully sort the understeer issue

All in all not bad after 16 years

Well done sir!

Interesting reading your experience with the smoke test. My bro, (I guess out of habit from when it wasn't exempt from duty), puts a couple of litres of ULSD and a goodly dose of injector cleaner in his, pre-test. :supafrisk:

His passed OK, but a few weeks later it blocked the fuel filter good & proper, (only been in 2 months).

I've been running mine on a veg derv mix for 5 months now and not had to change the filter yet.

It's had a couple of doses of injector cleaner in that time which may have helped clear any crap but she'll be getting an oil and filter service in the next month so I'll throw a new one in as a matter of course.

MOT tomorrow.
Went to halfrauds to get a sidelight bulb.
Hands are stinking of oil now, and burnt my hands a bit on the power steering reservoir, the sidelights on an Accord coupe are the most awkward buggers to get at.

Also got it the MOT wash. Something I never had to do in GB, but in NI it seems to be a pre-requisite of an MOT.
Basically you go to one of those Eastern European run car washes on an old petrol station, in the corner they have a big concrete ramp. You drive up it  and they powerhose the underside for MOT inspection.
The man said "hey nice car" which did make my day :P

It reminds me a bit of the old see-saw I did when off roading.

The man did guide me up it, he stood at the top and point left or right slightly or straight on. Had to get enough juice to get up it but not run him over.

Was worried that a wheel would fall off the side of the ramp
I sit fairly back, was near horizontal when on that! :)

Yeeeooooo passed

I thought the bit of a clunk it makes when it crashes in and out of those drains at the side of the road (the ones where they tarmac the road but leave the drain a foot drop) and possibly the nearside rear at its limit, but got a years ticket. (Or just over a year, was about 10 days early).
