IIRC on a dolly the back wheels of the car being towed would need to be legal.

If they're knackered (deflated, worn, punctured) or the handbrake seized, easier with a trailer.

towing dollys seam to be a bit of a gray aera
some people say the car has to be taxed and mot
some people say it dosnt because when on the dolly its a trailer
but you do need the rear tyres to be legal
ive towed one all over fetched a xr4i from northampton to nottingham up the m1 last month but

THE LAW SAYS YOU CANT TOW A TRAILER THAT IS OVER 750KG UNLESS IT HAS BRAKES

my dolly dosnt have brakes :(

In the case of that clio the other day i used a car transporter trailer on the back of the hilux. We used to tow cars home but it was a risky business, with a car securely strapped onto the trailer there is no worries with mr law.

According to fleabay guides, the car needs to be road legal

http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Tow-dolly-A-f ... 0009148711

Seems a bit strange, how is putting the back wheels on the ground any different than towing a fixed axle trailer?

And someone once told me that those rigid bars that the AA use, the car being towed doesnt need to be road legal other than tyres as it is effectively an extension of the lead vehicle?

Legal minefield.

A v6 engine and back wheel drive does sound like a recipe for an enjoyable drive.

Thats the great thing of getting a lend of such cars, you can enjoy all the great bits of the v6 the noise, the power, the grunt, and the noise again. But then at the end of the day leave it back and don't worry about running the thing, insurance, or tax
