So glad I didn't get a C5...

Post by Bailes1992 »

When I had my 406 the C5 felt fine, thought it was very nice to drive actually.
Had my Mondie a month and just jumped in the C5 :|

The steering is lighter in it than the Panda we have, the clutch has no feel to it what so ever, very spongey and numb, the throttle has a mind of it's own and it wobbles about on in the twisties like a fat woman trying to swim.
I'm starting to wonder if my 406 was much the same way too

Much say, the Mondeo is a much much superior car :|

Springy.

And after 25k the C5 needs new Abs sensors, the Dpf has had it and it keeps goong into economy mode even though there is nothing drawing power, the clutch also slips npw and again.

After 100k my Mondeo needs a new instrumemt cluster.

Wiggy, I think you had a bad experience with Fords - as did I to be honest.........

I grew up with CVH-engined Escrotes and Onions and the infamous Sierra's  ALL of which, without fail, were utter shyte. Things are different now, very different.

In my Family I've got 6 separate Ford-lovers and all of whom, without exception, has had very little trouble to speak of since about 2004 ish. My mother has ran KA's for years and I think the biggest problem was a stuck heater matrix solenoid which cost about £35.00 to fix.

I wouldn't shy away form a Ford like I used to. One thing I would say though is that they won't do the big mileages that some other makes take in their stride, I believe Fords are at their best in the first 5 years or so. Bailes's one has most likely been up and down the motorways for 4 years collecting the miles but I don't see that as 'wear' as such - not like doing 100K as a Taxi for example.

The old man had Granadas of old and swore by them. Tried and tested engines, RWD layouts. The thing that killed them (up until about the 2000s!) was rust.

The recent Fords I've come in contact with, the other half's last car a 2005 Fiesta which had done 35k but the alternator failed and the clutch was on it's way out, and a friend who had a child and bought a 2007 Focus as a family car but it has been in already for steering fluid pipe, electronics, wheel bearings and an issue whereby the washer jet lets water drip into the spark plug holes

Still not convinced, Ford still seem to be a finance company with a sideline in making fleet cars, alright for the 3 years before they go to resale auction, then its fair game for their parts department.

I thought going up and down motorways was a comfortable life for a big saloon/hatch? On gumtree they always put that in the advert "all motorwey miels" despite them living in the middle of nowhere where the nearest motorway is a 2 hour drive away.... (If it hasn't got cows on it, it's a motorway...)

I'd never have a c5 much prefer 5 seats to 1 and a proper engine instead of pedals and a motor from a food blender !

I was about to make a quip about PSA pedals being too small for size 12s when it clicked :)

How about this C5?

I grew up in a car-less one parent family for a few years and when I got my Clio from pulling 72 hour weeks on a summer job during university I was over the moon at getting it.

So yes I do count myself lucky and it took absolute ages for the novelty to wear off.

Its strange because people complain about not being able to make ends meet, yet usually they've got 2 newish cars (often SUVs) on the drive. Its one of those things that people take forgranted that they have to have.

2 holidays for the whole family to Tenerife and the 2 SUVs. And the kids generally have new £150 trainers they grow out of in months or wreck playing football.

On the tick.

Trainers (guddies they were called here) that were 2 sizes too big to "grow into".

The high school I went to had mostly ones from the suburb developments in Carrickfergus so they always had all the best of gear. gets.
